FOREWORD With our school year coming to a close we pause in retrospection of the past few months. In some respects there have been similarities with past years. - The same building and professors, books, exams, term papers. In other ways it has been entirely different - a new president, the inauguration of the Bible conference. But of greatest im- port have been the experiences and the people who have enriched our lives. Some of these occasions and the friends associated with them are recorded here- in to be relived in our reveries. CONTENTS ADMINISTRATION FACULTY CLASSES ORGANIZATIONS ACTIVITIES SPORTS ADVERTISEMENTS c. 14 I DEDICATION . . the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also. You have been an asset to our school in your sincere teaching of the Word of God as well as by the positive stand you have taken as expressed to us in your daily life. Because of your devotion to the students we have found in you a sympathetic and understanding counsellor whose advice has always been of immeasurable value to us. As an instructor you will always be remembered for the help you have given us in the interpretation of the Word of God, as well as the repetitious, You see? To you. Professor John H. Wilson, because of your untiring efforts to improve our school spiritually, socially, and academically, we. dedicate with earnest affection this I960 edition of KUM1-ORJ. PROFESSOR JOHN H. WILSON OUR NEW PRESIDENT DR. W. WILBERT WELCH, Ph.D. STAND THEREFORE, HAVING YOUR LOINS GIRT ABOUT WITH TRUTH” Although we have barely stepped over the threshold of this the new decade, yet already editors have prophetically named it as the fabulous sixties. If great movements have the habit of casting their shadows before them, then indeed the decade be- fore us should be fabulous. Technological advances have been so numerous - satellites, space probes, atomic subs, intercontinental missiles, polio vaccine - until we have been overcome with indifference. In the religious world the movements of the last decade have been even more far reaching than those of science. The religious atomic bomb of compromise was exploded and the great mushroom cloud has now spread over the whole earth. There isn't a church but has come under its shadow. The decade ahead may well be one in which new lines of battle must be drawn and new clear cut positions taken. This is no time for Christian schools to retrench. Our school stands without apology for the historic faith. We do not believe one must sacrifice orthodoxy on the altar of intellectualism - or sacrifice true intelligence in accepting die historical tenets of orthodoxy. In the decade ahead this school may not move with every theological breeze that passes, because it will be deep rooted in the authoritative written and Living Word of God. It shall be dedicated to train- ing young men and women to serve Christ, to stand out against a background of spiritual mediocrity,-to be fervent in the midst of religious lukewarmness, to be courageous when all around the flag of deep- seated conviction is mothballed, and to be God centered in life rather than self centered, or in Paul's words to stand - having the loins girt with truth. BOARD OF DIRECTORS REV. N. A. WIENS, Chairman REV. R. L. MATTHEWS REV. DAVID SMITH DR. HOWARD KEITHLEY REV. HENRY O. BERENDS REV. WOODROW McCALEB REV. DONALD OLSEN REV. WILBUR WEBBER REV. GLENN FRANKE DEANS LIFT STUDENTS FROM THE HORNS OF DILEMMA Dean of Education, LEON WOOD Dean of Men Dean of Women VICTOR MATTHEWS MARGARET CARPENTER Mrs. B. Matthews records the semester grades. The registrar is Mrs. Bonnie Matthews. Sending applica- tions for admission, processing these applications, maintaining the academic records of each student; these are a fraction of the duties she performs. She listens to the joys, the prob- lems, the secrets of all the learners. Of her it may be said, Charity suffereth long and is kind. Mr. C. Miller scans one of the many periodicals in the library. Keeping the books in their proper order, class- ifying new books, repairing old books, suggesting particular books to nurture a famished term pa- per; this is the job of the librarian, Mr. Clifton Miller. Although he may not always receive a Thank you for finding an elusive volume or for recommending a certain author to give light on a vexing problem, his assistance is appreciat- ed by all the students. F A C u L T Y WILLIAM H. PARDEE. Th. D. Professor of Systematic Theology No sensitive student can sit in Dr. Pardee's theology classes without sensing a graciousness that comes on- ly from-a walk with the Saviour. The great doctrines of Scripture are warmly expounded with utmost de- liberation and clarity, making the profound simple. His motto could well be, Never divorce doctrine from life. ” He is indeed, in the truest sense of the term, Doctor of Theology. WARREN H. FABER, Th. M. Professor of New Testament Warren Faber is a simple name for a man of God who is both profound and exceptional. He is Chris- tian, preacher of the Word, wise counselor, and teacher of New Testament. While he might be re- membered for his mannerisms - the sly grin, the glitter of the eye, or the movements of the hands, he of certainty will be remembered as dedicated teacher of Divine Truth. SHELDON B. QUINCER, D.D. Professor of Historical Theology Twenty years hence we'll wonder if Dr. Quince: really would have revised Newman's MANUAL OF CHURCH HISTORY if he had had the time. But, (and our thoughts may answer then) he did revise Newman during each class session of Church History; and it was done with godly wisdom and a sincere concern that the present generation of Christ's Church will profit from the lessons of the past. LEON J. WOOD, Th.M. Professor of Old Testament A firm step on the stair; a quick, Let us pray ; the inevitable, Well, let us go to the board and those final and misleading, No advanced assign- ment days; will come as echoes of their Hebrew class to many a future servant of the Lord. Then also will come a thankfulness for the patient guide in that rugged and uphill climb to a knowledge of the Biblical Hebrew - our own Professor Wood. VICTOR BARNETT Professor of Missions Out of Egypt have I called my son . . . first to serve in China, and now as professor of missions. His experience may find expression in Oriental gymnastics, or in facial ripples which belie their intensity. God has many men of straight-laced demeanor and determination, and, Professor Barnett, you must be the local one. MARGARET CARPENTER, M.R.E. Professor of English and Christian Education Miss Carpenter has the arduous task of making English grammar palatable to future preachers. He: proven ability in the department of Christian Edu- cation will save her students many hours of work when they come to grips with the problems of Sun- day school and vacation Bible school. MICHAEL DOONAN, B.Music Education Professor of Music With a song in his heart and a smile on his face Mr. Doonan greets the choir and the music classes. His tasks are many, including his main one which is to keep everyone on the .right notel. ... Although this is his first year with us hers a friend of all. VICTOR MATTHEWS, Th.M. Professor of English Bible and Philosophy Walking 10 school may be one of the mundane affairs of life” for this professor, but his teaching reveals a better philosophy. Through him, the Word is succinct and interspersed with the practical, but not really impaired by his fresh air psychology. How did you learn to live Luke 16:10, Professor Matthews? Want to talk about it?” JOHN H. WILSON, M.A. Professor of English Bible and Social Sciences Pressed for time to cover the material - this is Mr. Wilson's continuing problem. He is a living commentary that the Christian faith is relevant to our everyday circumstance. Prison epistles? Social sciences? Not separated areas, but a unified system of truth. WORLD MISSIONS FELLOWSHIP PAT WIMER, Secretary-Treasurer; PROFESSOR BARNETT, Advisor; DONALD BLOCK, President; DAVID YOUNGS, Vice-President. The World Missions Fellowship is an organization composed of students who share a vital interest in missions. Its purpose is to maintain a varied and active program which promotes increasing missionary consciousness. It also stimulates a prayerful responsibility for those serving Christ and those still in preparation. At the monthly meetings we have heard Rev. E. G. Wray, Philippines, Rev. R. Beukema, Panama, Dr. V. Olsen, East Pakistan and Rev. S. Britton, Liberia, tell of their testings and triumphs in the fields where they labor.
