Officers and Committee Chairmen of GRARBC: Left to Right: Rev. David Smith, Rev, Reginald L. Matthews, Mr. Elton Bidstrup, Mr. Blower Baker, Mrs. Louis VanderKaay, Rev. Frank Thatcher, Rev. Gordon Roloff, and Rev. Maurice Horn. edlicatiosi We wish to dedicate the 1959 edition of Kumi Ori, to the Grand Rapids Association of Regular Baptist Churches in recognition of their “Golden Anniversary.” Fifty years of illustrious history has seen the oldest Inde- pendant Baptist Association in the Nation grow into one of the largest local associations in the United States of America. The Grand Rapids Baptist Association was formed in 1843. As early as 1908 a doctrinal declension was evident. This caused a group of 14 churches to meet with the Calvary Baptist Church to withdraw from the Grand Rapids Baptist Association. They formed the Grand River Valley Baptist Association. In 1920 the name was changed to the Michigan Orthodox Baptist Associa- tion and in 1928 the name was again changed to the present Grand Rapids Association of Regular Baptist Churches. Today there are 87 churches with 12,712 members in an area bounded by North Adams in the south, Jackson in the east, and Calumet in the north. The projects of the Association include the Grand Rapids Baptist Seminary and Institute, the Michigan Christian Home Association, the Baptist Testi- mony, and the Women’s Missioary Union. May God continue to bless your co-operative labors for His Glory. To each individual member of this faithful group we say —this is your Kumi Ori. 3

Dr. R. T. Ketcham, National Representative of GRARBC. Dr. R. T. Ketcham was the main speaker for the 50th anniversary of the GRARBC, and brought a series of messages on the church of Jesus Christ. He challenged each Christian to win one soul to the Lord in the next year. Dr. Ketcham is a great prayer warrior and leader. In one years time he prays definitely, by name, for each student in our schools. Even though he is almost entirely blind, he continues to master the Word of God, and in- crease his knowledge by reading and studying many books. Dr. Ketcham and Dr. Fuller exchanging notes. 2
