The Student Body kumi - ORI 1956 It began as an evening school on January 7, 1941; ten part-time instructors were engaged, and classes were held in the Wealthy St. Church, as they are at this time also. In 1944 a day school in Bible Institute and a School of Theology were added. In 1948 the name was changed to the Grand Rapids Baptist Theological Semin- ary and Bible Institute, and in 1955 a Five Year Theologi- cal course was inaugurated. From the beginning more than half of the students tuition has been supplied by this church and others who have the school on their budgets. Entrance of the School It is with the deepest gratitude and heart-felt ap- preciation that we dedicate KUMI ORI 1956 to the Wealthy St. Baptist Church. Mere words could never sufficiently express our feelings, but upon investigation and examination of these sentiments we find that our heart cry is Praise God from Whom all blessings flow . DEDICATION Dr. D. O. Fuller, Pastor The Church Board And the things which thou hast heard of me among many witnesses the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also. It was the de- sire of the late Rev. O. W. Van Osdel, D.D., former pastor of the Wealthy St. Baptist Church, to establish a Baptist school of theology here in Grand Rapids, and although he did not live to see it, his hopes and prayers were fulfilled. God had laid a similar burden on the hearts of several local pastors and so it was that in 1940 a meeting of these pastors and interested laymen was held to consider the possibility of establishing a theologi- cal school. Some time later after much prayer and de- liberation the Baptist Institute came into existence. — 6 —
