Pardee, who has so faithfully served our school since its inception in 1941. At that time he was pastor of the Otsego Baptist Church, but gladly gave of his time to teach in the evening school. Then in the fall of 1944, Dr. Pardee became a full time professor and has been carrying a tremendous teaching load. Various classes have found in him a wise and sympathetic counsellor. Students marvel at his ability to give a satisfying answer to perplexing problems without having to study up on them. His ability to explain difficult doctrinal truths and to make them easy to learn has been most gratifying. His own deep spiritual life has made these truths more meaningful to us. Students will not soon forget his genial personality, his ready smile, his witty, rather dry humor, and his inevitable mention of delicious foods as the clock neared twelve. tyn 'Vi lentc tiunt; 0 think of the friends over there. Who before us the journey have trod, Of the songs that they breathe on the air. In their home in the palace of God. — D. W. C. Huntington James Eugene Goodrich entered The Home Over There July 23, I9SI. His eyes were ever -fixed on the heavenly goal and he could truly say v ith the Apostle Paul, For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. His last words were, I'm going Home. Gene will always remain in the memory of those who knew and loved him as one who had completely dedicated his life to the Lord. We, his friends and fellow students, miss hrm much but we rejoice to know that he is Home with the Lord. 8 the BpestpUte of Righteousness The breastplate, or heart-guard, was the piece of armor that protected the most vital part of the body. No soldier would think of entering into battle without his breastplate. In the battle against sin and Satan, the Christian must also protect his heart. In the battle against spiritual foes, one must wear a breastplate of righteousness. God not only imputes the righteousness of Christ to us for our justification; He also imparts a righteousness that enables us to have a victorious life. This righteousness consists of integrity, virtue, purity of life, uprightness, correctness in thinking, feel- ing, and acting. If the Christian does not possess these, the devil will defeat him, even while he is in Bible school, and will spoil every opportunity of service for Christ. Grand Rapids, Mich. Dear Seniors: Commencement Day has come with its triumph over nummerous physical, mental, and, above all, spiritual obstacles. As a parting word I want to remind you that the purpose of your training has been to equip you ihoroghly for the warfare in which the believer is engaged. The Scriptures declare plainly that this is not a physical warfare, but spiritual forces engaged in terrific combat with eternal issues at stake. It is, therefore, of great importance that we know our enemy and his strategy. The enemy,is none other than the devil who made his first appearanc in the Scriptures in the beautiful garden of Eden under the tree of knowledge. He has never left this vantage point. He has concentrated his greatest efforts on institutions of learning to corrupt man's thinking about God and His revelation. Let me urge you, therefore, to remember that in order to meet the foe success- fully you are enjoined to put cn the whole armor of God that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. Every provision has been made in this armor for complete victory to those who make use of the promise of Ephesians 6:13: Therefore put on the complete armor of God, so that you may be able to stand your ground on the day of battle, and, having fought to the end, to remain victors on the field (Weymouth). As you leave these halls our prayers will follow you that you will quit yourselves as good soldiers of Jesus Christ in order that when you stand before the Captain of our salvation you may hear the words, Well done.” Superintendent of Women Superintendent of Men Dean of Education 12 — GEORGE M. To paraphrase the thought in'Ephesians 6:15, we have: And be sure that your feet are equipped with the readiness which befits the gospel of peace. The gospel is the good news of peace: peace between Sod and man out of which can and should flow peace among men. Such news deserves — in fact, when rightly understood, is itself the inspiration for — readiness, promptitude, eagerness on the part of those who receive it. Readiness for what? Readiness to stand in the battle, fully clothed in our armor; readiness to obey every command of our Captain. 17 — 'entina iy rJ nwM Larry Mattis. Christ described the non-regenerete as of your father the devil” (John 8:44). Regeneration, of itself, does not free one from Satanic influence, as illustrated by Job and Peter. However, a Christian, basically, is no longer walking according to the prince of the power of the air ; he is no longer, of necessity, under Satan)s dominion. To the Christian has been given the shield of faith , or faith which acts as a shield. This faith is not only a distinguishing mark, but an activity. The activity of faith is a moral act of appropriation — claiming, in submission, the promise and power of God. Faith is a shield only as we see in Christ the victory as already won and then actively appropriate that victory for our own lives. We grant that darts will come, but faith is a shield by which they are quenched. 31 — Connie Elfstrom, Sec.-Trees.; Arnold Warner, Pres.: Jean Wagner, Vice Pres. rtfn fcfade SPentoM EILEEN BEARDSLEY First Baptist Church Cass City, Michigan Behoid, God fs my salvation: I will trust and rot be afraid: for the Lord JEHOVAH is my strength and my song- He also is become my salvation. However, the ever-present need for Christian fellowship is not ignored, for after the lecture and discussion, the club adjourns to the dining room for refreshments and fellowship.
