activities form the basis of our life at Cornell. These activities are derived primarily from the work of the men whose great thoughts have stimulated the development of our civilization. Plato, Aristotle, Yeats. I.ocke. Eliot, Kant, Pascal, Archimedes, and many others arc representative of these influences. e have almost an infinitude of knowledge at our disposal when we apply ourselves to these studies. It is during our undergraduate years that we are best disposed to acquire this heritage.

It is not our purpose herein to set down all the experiences, thoughts and activities which you have enjoyed during your years at Cornell. What we may attempt to do is to represent graphically the environment in which you have existed. We leave to you the task of associations, for you have very different and in many cases divergent thoughts concerning your undergraduate years. For many of you, sonic of these pages may stimulate memories of the first thrills of intellectual maturity and liberalism, for others they may represent the achievement of professional aptitudes. In any case, we may only hope, with some degree of assurance, that we have represented Cornell as you have known it. 5

1 E S T II E T I C influences are abundant at the University. Perhaps no other group of students in the world has the magnificent opportunities for the acquisition of these influences as we do at Cornell. The Major Concert Series, the Chamber Music Series, the Modern Dance Group, and the Sunday Afternoon Concert Series combined with frequent exhibits of art at the Willard Straight Music and Art room and the rapidly crumbling Morse Hall Gallery form a nucleus of noble artistic presentations.
