wane! CAange6 .girdle Cornell sees many changes vvith the transition from a wartime campus baclc to a peacetime campus. After four years of vvalldng to classes next to marching men one novv strolls leisurely along still half expecting to hear the familiar rhythmical step Qne, -l-vvo, Three, Fourl Brightly painted Model l's and loud plaid shirts are novv coming baclc into vogue, while fraternity houses are being reopened and are starting their functions again. But even with these changes Cornell has not so quickly for- gotten the vvar or her post vvar obligations to those countries whose students have been less fortunate. Cornell After Victory has continued its sale of bonds and stamps at Willard Straight, and through its stimulus all the Women's Living Units have been steadily sending boxes of food to different families throughout Europe. C After V is also sponsoring a clothing drive vvhich will be for the benefit of European families, and a Community Chest drive,part of which proceeds vvill go to the World Student Service fund. W.S.S.l7. is concerned vvith reconstruction and rehabilitation vvorlc for students all over the vvorld. The lnternational Exchanges is an organization for relief purposes, besides vvorl4ing tovvard a closer cultural unity of all nations. Student Council is composed of representatives from the Navy, Marines, and Veterans. lts Athletic fee program vvill be to the great advantage of all servicemen and veterans, and it is doing a good job of coordinating all the groups into a United Cornell. Veterans have been entertained by the various Women's Living Units vvith open houses and dances. Willard Straight has both a Servicemenls Committee and a Veteran's Committee. The Service- menis Committee deals with the solution of problems of the servicemen in their campus life. The Veteran's Committee coordinates activities of the veteran students. lt is now compiling a guide book of questions and ansvvers which will be of help to entering veterans. It also promotes forums in each of the colleges to understand better the problems they have to deal with and to become better acquainted vvith the faculty. . The Army Mess l-lall in Willard Straight is being transformed into a recreation room vvhich vvill be open all day for service of light refreshments and general enjoyment of the students. This room was originally an outside terrace, but with the addition of the Army program to the already estab- lished Navy program, more space vvas needed for feeding the men. The terrace was then enclosed and made the Army Mess l'lall. When the V-'IQ and A.S.T.P. vvere started, the Memorial Room vvas also opened for light refreshments. -lhe opening of this room will provide nevv sources of enjoyment and pleasure for the students at Willard Straight. 1945 has brought peace to the vvorld and returned many of our students to Cornell. lt is up to the students of 1946 to build a stronger and better Cornell and an institution of which our country can be justly proudl QQ
