orne! 14 umni :Mociafion Alumni l'louse at 3 East Avenue, ithaca, New Yorlc, is the service headquarters ior the Cornell alumni organization. It contains the Alumni Qtiice, where names, addresses, and biographical records oi all 65,000 former students are lcept up-to-date, the otiices oi the Alumni Fund Council, and of the Alumni News. ' The General Alumni Secretary oi the University, Emmet J. Murphy 'QQ is also the secretary oi the Cornell Alumni Association. Pauline J. Schmid '25 and Emerson l-linchliti '14 are Assistant Alumni Secretaries. All existing alumni organizations are now drawn together through the Board of Directors to formulate and carry out the policies and objects oi the Association. This governing Board is made up ot the presi- dents, chairmen, or elected representatives of the following: Alumni Fund Council, Alumni News Com- mittee, Federation oi Cornell Women's Clubs, Federation oi Cornell Men's Clubs,.Secondary Schools Committee, Association oi Class Secretaries, Directors from the seven geographic districts, Alumni Associ- ation oi the College oi Agriculture, Alumni Association oi the College of Architecture, Cornell Society oi Engineers, Alumnae Association of the College of l-lome Economics, Cornell Society oi l-lotelmen, Law Association, Medical College Alumni Association, Cornell University-New Yorlc l-lospital School oi Nursing Alumnae Association, and the Alumni Association oi the Veterinary College. William L. Kleitz '15 has served as President of the Alumni Association since June, 1941. Every graduate and every matriculate oi Cornell University whose entering class shall have been gradu- ated, and every candidate for an advanced degree not a member oi a regular class, is a member oi the Alumni Association. Membership is a privilege that comes automatically and means much ii one accepts the opportunities it oiiers. ' Qpportunities to serve Cornell are otiered through the several operating divisions oi the Alumni Association. lts organization may be compared to that oi a large business Firm. Local branch offices are some seventy Cornell Clubs of men and women. These have local oliiicers, hold regular meetings and social affairs, and many have active committees worlcing with secondary schools and oiier scholarship aid. The Secretaries oi the Federation oi Cornell Women's Clubs and the Federation oi Cornell Men's Clubs are the service oiiicers for these Clubs, assisting them with programs, and securing speakers from the Campus. The Cornell Alumni News, owned and published twice a month, on a self-sustaining basis, by the Alumni Association, might be called the public relations department. The magazine, edited by l-l. A. Stevenson '19, carries news and pictures oi the Campus and University and oi Cornell friends and Class- mates to all who subscribe. ' The Alumni Fund Council is the Financial department through which alumni and other iriends oi the University contribute to the Financial support of the University. The strength oi the Council lies in its Class Representatives, one man and one woman in each Class. Matthew Carey '15 has served since June, 1944, as President of the Fund Council. Emmet J. Murphy 'QQ as Executive Secretary is responsible for the conduct oi its aiiairs under the direction oi the Executive Committee. Olive Northup Snyder 'QQ and Garner A. Adams '35 are Assistant Secretaries. ' The Association oi Class Secretaries is the convention department which runs Class Reunions and is the clearing house for Class activities. It is composed oi all men's and women's Class Secretaries, who get together to exchange ideas for malcing the alumni Class organizations etiective. , Representatives of the First graduating class formed the Associate Alumni of Cornell University in 1872 and since that time the Alumni Association has rendered continuing and important service to the Uni- versity and to its membership. 11
