We are in a year that has brought forth many great men. But this is wartime, it is their common effort, not their individual achievements, that is important. Cornellians are in this battle on all of its fronts. In every service uniform and in every field of home activity, in the air and in the factories, on the sea and on the farms, in Washington and in the Pacific, Cornellians are fighting. Some are building weapons, and some are earning undying glory using them. In laboratories, in victory gardens, in Fortresses over Berlin, each does his best. They are a cross-section of our Nation meeting its great- est challenge, these Cornellians fighting for the ideals they shared at Cornell. lt is to them that this book is dedicated.
