Government of the University The government of Cornell University is vested in a President elected by the Board of Trustees, and a Board of Trustees, consisting of the President of the University and thirty-nine other members, of whom seven are ex-ofhcio, viz: the Governor of the State of New York, the Lieutenant-Governor, the Speaker of the Assembly, the Commissioner of Education, the Commissioner of Agri- culture, the President of the State Agricultural Society, and the Librarian of the Cornell Library. The eldest lineal male descendant of Ezra Cornell is a trustee during his life. Cf the remaining thirty-one members, fifteen are elected by co-optation for a term of five years, ten are elected by the alumni of Cornell Uni- versity to serve for live years, five are appointed by the Governor of the State of New York for the same term of service, and one is annually elected by the State Grange.
