Football Top row Pasters, M1lls, Lucas, Snyder, Mr M1ner, Mr Krlstal, Limberg, Burton, Russow, Second row Oyer, Fulkerson, Snyder, Delheimer, Johnson, Winn, Henson, Th1rd row Earp, Russow, Tralnor, Hacker, Moore, Pattersonp Fourth row Snyder, Morr1son, Garretson, Beck, Shult, Mllls, Farero, Cheerleaders Schuler, Smith, Gourley, Cashmer 541 ff QW The Cornell Cardlnal football team experlenced a ViCt0TlOUS 1953 season with 5 W1HS, 3 losses, and l t1e The Cardlnals, led by consistent SCOP1Hg Gene Snyder, fought for a well deserved the season with three stra1ght v1ctor1es before addlng a tie to the records The latter part of the year was less successful as the team lost three contests, but f1H1Sh6d the season wlth a victory The Cardlnals not only placed fourth olace 1U the M1dStSt6 Conference but placed men on the all conference teams as well They were back, Gene Snyder center, Roger MOPPISOH and end Gene Farero on the first team guard Norman Earp on the second team end, Clarence Oyer and guard Bob Pederson on the honor ble men tion list Graduatlon will take six lettermen from the l1ne up Those departlng senlors are backs, Gene Snyder, and D1ck Shult guards Bob Paterson and Norman Earm ends, Clarence Oyer and Gene Farero Ithough these boys saw much action, their replacement should eas ily be made with some of the up and COm1ng underclassmen Servlng as Co Captains th1s year were Gene Snyder and Dick Shult 1,1 I ' Q? Eesksillbnalll The Cornell Cardinals brought the basketball season to a close with ll wins and 16 losses Seven of those losses came by five points or less, which means that ahnost every game was a spectators dellght Four of the victories came in the six LL Con ference games, giving the Cardinals a tie for Conference chanpl onship and a first place trophy The varsitv team took second place in the LL tournament lor the SBLUHQ trophy of the year In the Midstate Conlerence, Cornell wa held to the second division, but scored some upsets to claim sixth place The Cardinals scored two victories to advance to the cham pionship tilt in the Hennepin District Tourney, only to lose to a sizzling opponent Three seniors were members of the starting five and contrib uted much to the team but should easily be replaced by advancing junior varsity members Those graduatlng are Gene Snyder, Dick Shult, and Gene Farero Co Captains for the 1953 S14 season were Dick Shult and Gene 1 0 f x 47 Farero.- - i'M Wg- 4 7 C I X 31, 9
