Qflless ilinsiurus On September 2, 1950 29 shy but anxious freshmen students entered Cornell High School We elected our officers as follows President Vernon Christopher V President Bob Patterson Treasurer Gene Snyder Secretary Clarence Oyer Reporter Dick Shult Student Council Joyce Gaspardo and Gene Farero There were lb members 1n band, 15 members in chorus, and 3 members in Dance Band Eleven girls Joined F H A , and 5 boys F A Joyce Gaspardo had the honor of being Sweetheart Then came that terrible day the sophomores had been waitlng for we were in1tiated as true students of Cornell High' For our annual trip, we explored the Museum of Science and Industry So ended our Freshman year On August 29 '51, 25 sophomores entered the halls, but decided to leave us before the year ended Officers elected were President Marilyn Gourley V Presldent Vernon Christopher Treasurer Clarence Oyer Secretary Cla1re Cox Reporter Norman Earp Student Council Helen Hurt and Gene Snyder We had one less member 1n chorus and lb were in band This year 7 boys jolned F F A and the same number of girls were in F H A This year Marilyn Gourley was the Sweetheart It was now our turn to in1tiate the Freshmen Six couples were chosen to serve at the Junior Senior Prom On August 28, 1952, 22 juniors enlisted, but 5 left our class of '5L Junior officers were President Joyce Gaspardo V Presldent Clarence Oyer Reporter Gene Farero Student Council Marilyn Gourley and Vernon Christopher This t1me we had 12 members 1n band 15 members 1n chorus, 5 boys out for athletics, 12 g1rls 1n F H A and 6 boys ln P F The class play was a huge success as we enacted the great comedy, 'June Mad' Joyce Gaspardo and Marilyn Gourley were chosen foot ball cheerleaders and Joyce was elected as basketball cheerleader In November our long awaited class r1ngs arr1ved To close the third year, the junlors presented the colorful Junior Senlor Prom with the theme belng 'Oriental Gardens' Norman Earp and D1ck Shult were chosen to represent our school at Boys' State On August 31, '53, our last and best year began with 17 stu dents but we waved good bye to 2 students Our senior class of ficers were President Gene Farero V President Vernon Christopher Treasurer Claire Cox Secretary Ruth Calder Student Council Marlene haught1gan and John Redfern The band contained 9 seniors, 13 were 1n chorus, and 6 boys participated 1n athletics There were 3 boys in F F A and 7 girls in F H A Claire Cox was chosen as Sweetheart, th1s t1me At the Homecomlng Dance, Gene Farero was chosen King To repre sent our school, Marllyn Gourley was chosen D A R award winner Our class flower is the Camelie, our motto, 'Pick Out Your Peak and Climb ' The class chose to visit Washington D C on the class trip The class presented 'Cradle Troubadour' which was a big success This concludes the History of the Class of '5L, whlch includes four years of our lives that shall never be forgotten cv 9 O . 0 I J , , , 3 Treasurer-John Redfern Secretary-Claire Cox . . , .
