JUNIOR CLASS HISTORY In September, 1945, sixty-six bashful but ambitious freshmen entered Cornell High School for the first time. During the year thirteen of our classmates dropped from our ranks. The class officers we elected were william Howard, president, Carol Lavalley, vice presidentg and Rose Klima, secretary and treasurer. Our sophomore year found only fifty-one of us present. We had lost ten members, one of whom Joined the United States Navy. The class officers were: president, Glen Wilcoxg vice-president, Don Lubach: secretary and treasurer. Elaine Nelson. As Juniors we are back at the Wgrindstoneu again. Of the thirty-eight students en-- rolled, only four left. As our class play we chose 'Gone with the Girlsu, a hilarious three-act comedy by L. Verne Slout. Given on October 19, 1945. the play was a financial success. Glen Wilcox is our class presidentg Kenny Crosby, our vice-president, and Carol Lavalley, our secretary and treasurer. We also presented the Junior prom, given in honor of the senior class of 1946. The prom was held on April 26 with Johnny Atter furnishing the music. A long and tedious job is that of the annual staff. The staff is selected early in the year so that it ls possible for them to keep an accurate record of the various act- ivities of the school year. Since the editor-in-chief and the business manager have the greatest responsibility, they are each assigned an assistant from the junior class. The assistants become accus- tomed to the work to make it possible for them to take over these positions the following year. Following are the staff workers under their adviser, Mr. Soderstrom: editor-in-chief, Wanda Rufledtg Junior editor, Rose Klimag business manager, Melvin Schildg junior business manager, Glendon Wilcoxg copy editor, Jean Zahnerg sports section, Duane Diamond and Keith Cronkg snapshots, Rosemary Brown and Loretta Falbeg senior and group pictures, Donna Howard and Hulda Saamg art editor, Dale Hurlburtg typists, Lois Stiokney, Jean Grotto, Mildred McMenam1n, Dolores Van Den Heuvel, and Ruby Yohnk. The process by which the book is printed is known as the offset-lithography method. Very careful and exacting work is required of the annual staff, since all of their work is photographed and reproduced 'ln toto'. The Badger Printing Company of Appleton, Wis- consin, has been our publisher for several years and ls especially co-operative in lend- ing technical assistance. SENIOR CLASS PLAY The senior class presented the play ' The Bargain Bride n on April 5, 1946. The play was a hilarious farce in three acts. The story was based around Jimmy Smith KMelv1n Schlldj, and Dex Dorner fKe1th Cronkl, who suddenly found it necessary for them to marry to acquire some large sums of money. When their own girl friends, Wendy Hill fLois Stickneyl and Gisele Trent CRosemary Brownl, refused them, Dex proposed first to the landlady, Florabelle Fizby fDolores Van Den Heuvell and then to the Swedish maid, Minnie Peterson CHulda Saaml. Before Dex has a chance to inform Mrs. Fizby and Minnie of his decisions, Dex's aunt, Oma CLoretta Falbel from Omaha pops in and finds Dex with three fiancees. She is the one who must approve Dex's choice of a wife. From this point on, complications pile on top of each other, entangllng all the CHAT' acters. The other characters were: Tucker Trent, C1ss1e's father Kwalter Bel hleyl, Miss Thompklns, one of the reasons for J1mm1e's sudden urge to marry, CDonna Howardg, Mrs. James Smith, the new landlady KJul1a Kllmal, and Hosanna Bugg, the negra cook, afraid of spooks, KJean Zahnerl.
