On August 51, 1942, the doors of Cornell High swung open to admit, not only the students who have spent other years here, but 5l half-frightened freshmen as well. At the end of our first year we felt that we had found a place for ourselves among the other students of Cornell High. Our sophmore year found 56 of us in the harness. During this year Norman Kohls left our class to serve his country in the United States Navy. Forty-two of us put our noses to the grind stone for our third year on September 5 1944. Again we lost two classmates to the Navy, Harold Parsons and Robert Thon. Our class play Wly Cousin from Texasn, a fast moving, hilarious three act farce, was a financial and entertaining success. The characters were as follows: Peaceful Johnson, a young colored maid, Jean Zahnerg Mrs. Beulah Scott, a widow, Delores Van Den Heuvalg Shield Scott, her elder daughter, Rosemary Brown, Doris Weaver, Sheila's best friend, Loretta Falbeg Wilbur Scott, Beulah's youngest, Duane Diamondg Lucille Scott, the youngest daughter, Lois Stickneyg Preston Rogers, Sheila's fiance, Melvin Schildg Johnny Benton, an unexpected young man, Walter Beighleyg Eshew Smith, Johnny's colored valet, Tom Hurlburtg Cactus Kelly, a cowboy, Don Van Den Heuvalg Tomasind Cooper, from Texas, Julia Klima. Keith Cronk is our class president, Donald Van Den Heuval our Vice president, and Hulda Saam, our secretary and treasurer. We are now working to successfully present the social event of the year - the junior prom in honor of the seniors, and are looking forward to our last year of school with sincere hopes that it will bring bigger and better things to our class as a group.
