All of the effort involved in attending classes, doing your homework, and studying for tests has helped prepare you to further your studies in high school. Most importantly, your teachers at Corlears have tried to equip you so that you are best able intelligently to make the many critical decisions which face you within the next few years. What electives shall I take? Should I attend college? What shall I major in? What field or profession shall I prepare for? Which friendships shall I cultivate and main- tain? What are my goals, long range and short range? How can I best achieve these goals ? These are but a few of the questions that will face you. We know that you will approach them thoughtfully, drawing upon the knowledge and the skills developed in school, and with the advice of your teachers and family. The decisions are yours. The staff of JHS 56 has worked diligently with you these past years and is confident that the roads you take will lead you in the direction of success and a happy, productive life. My fellow crewmen, we are about to face a perilous journey. This starship is the only vessel within 3 galaxies of section 2. This starship with its advanced nuclear tobonic engines will make a large journey to section 2, to receive a vital formula called, X2000f' Sir, I hate to disturb you, but what makes this journey so perilous? This whole journey will take about one year to complete. During one year of that traveling time, we and this starship will face unknown supernatural forces. Our chief scientist has not yet determined how to combat these forces, although we hope we will find a way. The next day a giant starshipis engines roared as they lifted the mighty vessel off its launching platform. We are clearing the red light sequence sirfl Good, keep the ship at speed level 1, until we have entered international traveling space. When she entered the apartment, Mrs. Perez nearly fainted from fright. Glassware was broken all over the floor and the sofa was torn in many places. Near the sofa she found Jerry bleeding heavily with no discernible pulse. Mrs. Perez then noticed footprints on the floor. In the next room she found Mimi covered with blood that was not her own. Mrs. Perez thought about calling the police but decided against it. She hit Mimi three times and sent her to her room. WHY DIDN'T SHE NOTIFY THE POI.ICE???? Q es: Tony Mau 8-232 THE CASE OF THE MISSING RING One day Bill decided to buy a ring for his wife's birthday. He decided to hide it in his office so that his wife would be pleasantly surprised. Bill invited three of his friends from his office who were Tom, Jimmy, and Felix, to celebrate with them. The night before the party, however, Bill discovered that the ring was stolen from his office? Bill questioned his three friends. Bill said that a valuable gift for his wife has disappeared. Tom said that whoever would steal such a present should be arrested. Jimmy said that whoever had stolen the ring should be shot. Felix advised to call the police. Bill declared that calling the police was unnecessary. He knew the thief. DO YOU??? Maria Espinal 8-232 See answers on inside of back cover page. 6 ll 1111 l ff 1 z, T237 J. When detective Johnson arrived at the scene of the suicide, he saw the dead woman's body hanging from a rafter in the ceiling. She was wearing a blouse buttoned to the top except for the middle button which she was clutching in her hand. Mr. Smith, the next-door neighbor, stated that he saw the woman tying the rope around her neck and seconds later she was suspended in space. Detective Johnson had heard enough and arrested Mr. Smith. WHY?? Yuen Tsoi 8-232 THE CASE OF THE STOLEN NECKLACE l' l i l l N t S 1 It was Sunday morning when Mr. and Mrs. Clairfield awoke to begin the day. Since the day was so beautiful, the Clairfields decided to wake up the children and go on a picnic. Mrs. Clairfield went upstairs to the one bathroom in the house to take a shower. She removed a valuable necklace that her husband had given her and placed it near the sink. She was hoping for something better, but her husband had liked this necklace. Anyway, the entire family went downstairs to eat breakfast and the maid provided the picnic baskets. Just before they were ready to leave, Mrs. Clairfield remembered that the car keys were in the kitchen drawer. She then ran out of the house crying that the necklace had disappeared. The family searched the whole house but could not find it. A plumber checked the pipes, the police were called in. Can you solve the crime????? With whom we laughed and cried Remembering the fun and laughter The problems and the fears. And watching all our memories grow Throughout our Junior High School years. The memories of the fun we had And the new friends that we've met Vacations, teachers, talking And exams we'd rather forget Yes, J.H.S. days are precious, but brief, Whereall your dreams come true It is not the end, but the beginning. Bernice Miranda 9-336 GRADUATION TIME Graduation time is a time to be proud Especially when they announce your name very loud. The success of being promoted from one grade to another. Is different because now they make a big bother. Everyone is filled with thrills and -sensations Of attending another of their own graduations. But when everyone has gone to celebrate this day. Memories will be carried for everyday. Kasandra Harley 7-440 THE GRADUATION REHEARSAL It's graduation rehearsal today, everyone is marching down the aisle today. The teachers will let us know tomorrow Who will graduate? I studied so hard, I past my tests and I think I saw one of my teachers smile. Fresh and clean from April showers Which happen every spring. Life is like a nice sweet song, The sweetest you can hear. Something like a bell's ding-dong, That rings both far and near. You think so much you got to get away Soon you find yourself all alone. No one there but your shadow. You try to turn to someone new. You know there's no one there so it's up to me to grow up.Even though growing up is hard to do. Annabel! Ortega 9-336 I WALK WITH PRIDE I was young and ignorant but functioning with feelings of desire. I felt I wanted that one boy in my heart. Yes, he was plump, cute, smart, no one had eyes for this boy, but me. . . l was a bit older and experienced with what love had to offer. I saw that special boy no longer plump, but tall, dark and handsome, staring. Knowing what I desire I was begging with my eyes. This boy had everything a girl wanted. Looks, friends, and girls. But this boy knew all about his qualities and he knew all about what I felt, but coulclnlt care less. I am older and wiser now. I see this guy standing across from me looking with desire. But nowl know what qualities I have. I am a proud young woman refusing to beg. I know for what I stand, for I am to be touched in sight not in body and soul. So now I just walk on by with my head up high because now I am walking with pride!!! Glenda Marrero 9-336 MY BEST FRIEND l My best friend, knows what I mean. I donit even have to say the words. She reads my face,my voice, and understands. She doesn't criticize or talk about me behind my back, and sheis always there when I need her. My best friend always makes me feel good, she helps me to laugh again, and see the best side of me. That's why shefs my best friend. Glenda Marrero 9-336 10 TERROR NIGHT On the night of February 28, I was visited by a ghost. It was like a nightmare. It was nerve-wrecking. I woke up in the middle of the night and I felt funny about something, but I couldnft figure out what it was. When I tried to go back to sleep, something touched my hands. When I opened my eyes, I saw a big thing with a dark face that was pitch black, and it had glowing eyes. It was saying to me Come on, come with mef, Then my room became very dark-as if I were in another world abut I could still see my bed-room, and it hada little light, so I had to make it to the light. But I couldnlt because Hitw wouldnft let me. It felt like a magnet, and I couldnit break free. Suddenly however, as I was trying to reach the light he pulled me back with such a force I thought Iwas gone. But I tried once more, and I broke free. While I was trying to break free, I said a prayer to the Lord God and he helped me escape. That terror will stay within me for the rest of my life. Christopher McBride Steven Caldwell 9-305 11 John SOIVIE'I'HING'S ON MY MIND TODAY On my mind today is the test for tomorrow. I hope I donIt end up failing which would till me with sorrow. I plan to study all night! Making sure everything is all right. I am bothered and I am worrying I hope my mark will not be discouraging, I know this thing on my mind will never go away I hope it will end the day after today. Susana Wan 74440 What What What What What WHAT IF... if... if the world was of no light . . . if the world was only of darkness . . if there was no happiness in the air if all there was, was a world of sadness, frowns, and loneliness, without a friend. Luckily, that is not so. . . Sophia Yee 7-1140 Shuk Wong 9-205 SENIORS Seniors are sweet Others are sour No one can beat The Senior Power! Tina Byrd 9-324 REMEMBER ME I will always remember you. You helped me in many ways. You were there to make me happy on my sad lonely days. I will always remember you and the love that we shared those long summer days and how deeply you cared. I will always remember you In all that I do for the good times we've had and all we've been through. I will always remember you. I'm sure by now you can see, but I ask one question will you remember me? Zenobia Valle 9-337 HOW IT FEELS TO BE IN THE CHORUS To be in the Senior Chorus is an honor because not everyone is chosen to join. Only those who are willing to work hard and have courage, and respect being in the chorus. Sure it's hard work but believe me it's worth it. We students in chorus enjoy being in the Senior Chorus. We travel to fancy places, we've been to hotels we've never been to before. We really have fun together especially when we complete with other choirs. We also have early rehearsals that make us good enough to compete and sing. Sometimes we even go to two places one after the other in the same day. Being in the Senior Chorus . is really fun, but hard work, especially if you have one teacher. I don't know how Mrs. Pate puts up with 125 students. Glenda Marrero 9-336 SOMETHING'S ON MY MIND TODAY Something's on my minf:1 today, A thought of happiness in the air, No sorrow or loneliness in the world. A thought of laughter in the air, And the joy of children singing. A sky of twinkling stars, A morning of sunshine. A thought that someday a smile'll be on everyone, No frown or fear that is the thought always on my mind. Sophia Yee 7-440 WITHOUT YOU wl ig-:LA C I r Without you who am I? X X j r 2' .
