Emu I, gedalw, Ward KMGW4 JOHNSTON XOUNTY HERITAGE CENTER ' ,MITFTFIE X Now is the hour when we must say goodby. So go the words of a very beautiful song. Yet, close to each of us are these very same words, because we have reached that point when our association with you on an aca- demic level must terminate. Before we enter that journey of life, we must in these last dying minutes pause momentarily to meditate and speculate. It is in meditation that we dig into our past and see just how we reached this present point in our lives. It seems now for the first time we really recognize the patience our teachers had with us. It is only now that we appreciate the discipline that back then seemed so terrible and without basis. Now that we have no more homework, book reports, science experiments or problems in math, we see that we have lost something that can't be written down or expressed in words. Yet, in these beautiful moments of remembrance and meditation, the wheels of life will not permit us to stand still. We have now reached the point of speculation . . . the point of no return. We realize for the first time what the teachers meant when they said we would someday be on our own. We see now that life is a little more than a thirty-nine Ford and forty dollars a week. Our hearts are heavy with insecurity and yet, at the same time, our minds are filled with confidence. We ask that you be kind to us in your memories and that you will always carry us in your dreams. We leave with you this annual . . . our final tribute. Now is the hour when, we too, must say good- by. 4.1-1111 We 1 4 4 . They have understood our problems, assisted us with patience of steel and untiring efforts, listened to our com- plaints with an admirable smile, in- spired us with confidence, encouraged us when we were disheartened, and in- creased our chance for success. They have been patientand understanding in all of our shortcomings. Their determined effort to make us satisfied and happy will always be re- membered as one of our most precious high school memories. Because of their guidance this far in our lives, we now take this opporttmity to express, in a little way, our appreciation, love, re- spect, and gratitude for all they have done for us. So it is with humble hearts that we dedicate this 1963 Co- rinthian to our parents! X 7a ' In memory of Mrs. Gilbertine Garner, who passed from our midst on July 20, 1960. Her clean and unselfish life won the love, the admiration, and the confidence of her many friends and students. She will always re- main in the hearts of the Seniors because of the guidance she gave them in their freshman year. EARLY DEATH She passed away like morning dew Before the sun was highg So brief her time, she scarcely knew The meaning ofa sigh. As round the rose its soft perfume, Sweet love around her floated, Admired she grew - while mortal doom Crept on, unfeared, unnoted. Love was her guardian Angel here, But.Love to Death resigned her Though Love was kind, why should we fear But Holy Death is kinder? HARTELY COLERIDGE stration 1 MR. E, S, SIMPSON MR. J. In the fall of 1959, we, the Class of '63, entered a new phase of life, and began our years of high school. During the first year, our time was well consumed by all the events new to us, but with the guidance of Mrs. Gilbertine Garner and Mr. Raiford Fulghum, we became sophomores. ln our sophomore year, directed by Mrs, Geraldine Carroll and Mrs, Lois Holifield, we began to know more about high school life, With their help and leadership we soon became juniors. As juniors we had Mr. Charles Wilson and, again, Mrs, Geraldine Carroll to help and guide us. We entered a magazine campaign to raise money. We honored the Seniors at a Junior-Senior Banquet at the Ship 'n Shore in Wilson. The theme was Hawaiian Cruise. We had a very enjoyable evening that we shall never forget. ln the fall of 1962 our dreams finally came true. We became seniors. During these last nine months our leaders were Mrs. Margaret Edwards and Mr, Charles Carroll. ln these few months we packed many happy. events, including publishing an annual, selecting and receiving our class rings, and selecting invitations and calling cards. We also attended a Junior-Senior Banquet. Then came one of the most important events of our lives, our graduation. This con- cluded the twelve happy years that we spent together at Corinth-Holders. As we step out into the world, we carry with us the many happy and joyous memories of our days at Corinth-Holders High School. We shall always be thankful for the guidance that our teachers gave us as we go into our different fields of work. Class Historian Gary Allan Hocutt The time is exactly ten years after the graduation of my class at Corinth-Holders High School. In order to satisfy my curiosity about the achievements of my former classmates, I have snooped on them and found out what their places are in the world. I am having this information printed in the Corinthian so that others might read it and beam with pride at the success of this class. It looks as though Mrs. Carroll really created an interest in secretarial work during our senior year. Soon after graduation these girls became secretaries in Raleigh: Sally Hocutt, Vonnell Taylor, Joyce Hinton, Edith Godwin, Jean Hocutt, Carolyn Martin, and Louise Harris. Beverly Creech is now Mrs, Claudie Duke, Jr. and is a fashion model in California. Gary Hocutt is a business executive and to keep his financial and business affairs, he hired Peggy Narron and Jeannette Hocutt. Linda and Judy Narron, who graduated from Mitchell's Beauty School in Raleigh, are now Mrs. Tommy Barnes and Mrs. Jackie Hawley. Yates Murphey is president of the largest bank in New York. His cashiers are Nellie Johnson and Carol Horton Linda Bishop is married and now the mother of three children. Delma Whitley and Peggy Turner have taken Lucille Ball and Vivian Vance's places in California on the I Love Lucy Show. Billy Boyette is owner and operator of the Boyette Transportation Line in Raleigh. Marshall Boykin is the assistant manager. Employed as their private secretaries are Carol Doan and Edith Carroll. Paulette Lynch is now content keeping house as Mrs. Paul Brown, Jr. while living in a mansion in the big city of Z.ebulon. Bobby Wall is head coach at the University of North Carolina. Jesse Hamilton is his assistant. Janice Capps has become a famous dress designer in Beverly Hills. She designed wedding gowns for Sue Cor- bett, Yvonne Glover, and Betty Jean Wood, who are now married. Donnie Bailey and Richard Beliveau have achieved the title of Lieutenant in the United States Air Force. Daphne Wilson is the editor of the Emit Journal in which she published the announcement of her marriage to William Smith. Vernon Congleton is driving a Greyhound bus and touring all over the world taking life easy. Larry Brown is now the head psychiatrist at the State Hospital in Raleigh, His receptionist is Delories Smith. Class Prophet Peggy Narron M7 Sadness creeps upon us, As the teardrops seem to start, For we come to realize, That we must depart. In our life together here, Our friendships large have growns These will be as happy years, As we have known. The twelve years we've been here, We have studied hard and yet, It has been the sweetest time, That we never shall forget. Then sometimes it seemed unfair, And we thought that we'd been wronged: But as we looked back on it, We'd have it prolonged. Somehow parting leaves with us, Many thoughts for future things. And we ponder deeply now, What fate will bring. Though this night must mean goodbye, We will treasure with a sigh, And remember it for ere, Dear Corinth High. Beverly Creech 65444, :Dum Yes, the time is drawing nigh, That we must leave dear Corinth-High. We must walk through her doors open wide And journey into a world outside. To teachers, classmates, and friends so true Who helped us when the days were blue, We now must say our sad goodby, As we leave Ole Corinth-High. No one knows what the years may bring Sadness, Gladness, almost anything, Our future plans now we must decide, And journey into the world outside. Daphne Wilson Favorites s 'fr'-ff 'jf 'E . 'I g.
