CLASS MOTTO Second Best is Never Good Enough Class Song Years ago we met at Corinth High, Now we're saddened as we say goodbye. Dear old school we'll miss you when we leave, Our life's goals we must achieve. Our dear teachers led us through the years, Helped us overcome our doubts and fears. Love for classmates, too, is in each heart, And remains there as we part. Graduation's here and we must go, Happy school life we will miss you so. Now our parting ship is to set sail, Corinth High we say, Farewell. KAY EATMAN Class Song Writer Alma Mater Here's to our Alma Mater, Corinth Dear'ole, Corinth High We'll praise her 'till the end of time, Dear 'ole Corinth High. For it's rah rah, Corinth-Holders, Holders, Rah rah, Corinth-Holders, Holders, Rah rah, Corinth-Holders High. Class Poem Now that the time has come for us to go We'll sing while our hearts cry low. Dear God, whatever we should endeavor Please watch over this class of '57. The name Corinth-Holders we never shall forget Since the day that we first met. We came from two separate schools We learned to follow the Golden Rule. To the teachers who helped us through God will be good to you, too. And dear Corinth-High God will protect you as the years go by. As old father time calls upon us We must not fuss. For we found many pleasures here During these four short years. To our teachers we want to say Thanks Forgive us for our many iokes and pranks. And for us, dear classmates, The future now awaits. JOSEPHINE DAUGHTRIDGE Class Poet We're singing rah rah, Corinth-Holders, Holders Rah rah Corinth-Holders, Holders, Rah rah Corinth-Holders rahl rah! rah! Class History For eight years we had eagerly awaited the last lap of our iourney through the land of learning...our high school days. Finally, in 1953, we the Senior Class of 1957, began one of the most exciting and interesting steps in our lives. This first year, we were somewhat fearful because of the hugeness and rush of high school-, but we had a feeling of importance and a desire to reach our goal. Mr. Yancey Aycock and Mrs. Catherine Walls were our guides, and with their help and leadership we became Sophomores. By the second year, we knew more about high school life. Ourenthusiasm was growing greatly. We had as our leaders, Mr. A. H. Hamrick and Mrs. Gilbertine Garner. With their guidance, we soon became Juniors. As Juniors we had Mrs. Stuart Murphy and Mr. Yancey Aycock to direct us. By this time we were acquiring a few more responsibilities. We presented a class play, A Ready-Made Family. We entered a magazine campaign which we enfoyed very much. Then came the event that we had waited for so long, the Junior-Senior Ban- quet. We had an enjoyable evening at the S. 8. W. Cafeteria in Raleigh. That night was one we shall never forget. ln the fall of l956, we finally became Seniors. We had as our guides Mrs. Mary S. Vann and Mr. Charles Carroll. With their wonderful guidance, we packed many happy events into these nine short months. We published an annual, presented a class play, selected and received our class rings, and selected invitations and calling cards. We also attendeda Junior-Senior Banquet, sponsored a barbecue supper, pre- pared for graduation, and finally made plans for a trip to Washington which ended twelve happy years together. As we step out and take our various places in the world, we will carry with us many happy and cherished memories of our days here at Corinth-Holders High School. We hope to prove ourselves capable leaders in whatever occupations or professions we choose. JEANETTE WHITLEY Class Historian The date is May 22, T967, exactly ten years after the graduation of my class at Corinth-Holders High School. In order to satisfy my curiosity about the achievements of my Famer classmates, I have snooped on them and found out what their places are in the world. l am having this information printed in the Corinthian so that others might read it and beam with pride at the success of this class. Faye Boyette is still practicing her good grooming habits, not only on herself, but all the women in Raleigh. She and Phyllis Allen are owners and operators of The Faye-Phil Beauty Shop in Raleigh. Jeanette Whitley is a concert pianist who has toured three countries giving her concerts. Patricia Smith travels with ,her during the summer but she has to be back for her Home Economics teaching duties in the fall. Ray Wilder isabusiness executive and to keep his business in the family he hired his sister, Becky Wilder as his secretary. Jim Thornton has retired and Marshall Vause has taken over his television show. Speaking of television, Kay Eatman has taken Ann Southern's place as Susie McNa- mara on the show Private Secretary. Carl Creech is Art Editor of Life Magazine and Frannie Brown is Art Editor of Look Magazine. Boy, are they rivals! Jake Lewis is Henry Ford's private lawyer. The former Kathryn Castleberry has received her college Bachelor of Arts Degree, her Mrs. degree, and is now reigning as the current Mrs. America of 1967. lt looks as though Mrs. Carroll really created an interest in secretarial work during our senior year. Soon after graduation these girls became secretaries in Raleigh: Geneva Sasser, Barbara Nell Whitley, Gail Hinton, Janie Strickland, Carol Davis, Linda Allen, Betty Lou Michael, and Barbara Murphrey. Sue Eatmon is the State 4-H Club Leader. One of her assistants is Mollie Sue Gardner. Benny Hocutt is the Minister of Music at the Tabernacle Baptist Church in Raleigh. Larry High is the pastor and Faye Wall is the Religious Education Director. Billy Crocker's high school working experience is really helping him-now. He is owner and operator of Aaron's Drive-ln. Grady Eason is the owner of a large bulldozing business. He has dug ponds for farmers Wallace Earp, Kent Brown, and Grady Strickland. Lynclo Tippett is a pharmacist in Walgreen's Drug Store in Raleigh. Class Prophecy Billy Godwin likes to read so well that he built a new library at Corbett-Hatcher, furnished it with millions of books and now he is really enjoying life. Included in his famous collection of books are Bedtime Jokes by comedian Audrey Han'is, and Science of the Day by the great scientist Jerry Narron. l hear Dr. Walker Narron is now using the latter as a textbook at Yale. Coy Turner has taken Elvis Pressley's place. He is singing in various places in the United States and his traveling companion is Fred Creech. A white globetrotters team has been organized by Shelton Wall. The manager of the team is Donnie Hogge. Dr. Mary Ellen Creech isa brain specialist at Duke. Joy Wilder is her secretary, Nancy Vinson and Maxine Hinton are her special nurses. Lewis's Floor Sanding Company is owned and operated by Larry Lewis. G. A. Bames is one of his employees. Brenda Dixon and Josephine Daughtridge chose to work at Rex Hospital as nurses. Aubrey Carroll is working at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. Shirley Gay is teaching the third grade at Wendell School where Bobby Carroll is thetprincipal. Phyllis Johnson has become a teacher, also. She loved her Alma Mater, Corinth-Holders so much that she decided to return there and teach the child- ren of her former classmates. After obtaining his degree from State College, Wayne Ward joined the Navy as an engineer connected with atomic research. Rufus Batten is head of the Forestry Department at State Colle e g . Joseph Boyette and Max Hocutt ioined the Army soon after graduation and both are making a career of army life. Vonnie Jean Richardson is singing on the Hit Parade. Billy Wayne O'Neal still possesses the title President as he didin l957. He is President of the First National Bank in Raleigh. Betty Lou Beasley is one of his bookkeepers .
