After a short while we adjusted to this life and had many happy years together The highlights of these first eight years were Christmas parties and picnics which greatly lightened the work. September of i948 marked the beginning of those real years, for it was then that we entered high school. lt was especially nice because there were sixty-one members of our class composed of those who had been at Corinth-l-lolders all the time and some from Archer's Lodge. We felt like one big happy family under the leadership of Miss Dulin and Mr. Shaver, Naturally we experienced the usual hardships that freshmen must endure, but we became sophomores in spite of it all Mr. Shaver and Mrs. Gainey were our sponsors that second year in high school. We still were of little importance, but we did have some of our girls selected to serve as waitresses for the Junior-Senior banquet. When we became Juniors, Mrs. Jenkins was our sponsor, We were really gaining prestige by this time. We thoroughly enjoyed presenting a class play Cheerio My Deariof' We entered - and won, mind you - a magazine campaign, Then came the truly great event of the year. We entertained the Seniors at a banquet carrying out the theme of a gypsy camp. After a very short summer, we became Seniors - that position for which we had worked and dreamed for so long, Into nine short months under the leadership of Miss Sadler we packed many happy events including publishing an annual, selecting and receiving class rings, presenting a class play, selecting invitations and calling cards, attending a banquet at which the Juniors entertained us, attend- ing several class parties, preparing for class night and graduation, sponsoring a barbecue supper, and finally making plans for a trip to Washington to mark the end of twelve happy years together. You're the school whose spirit Lives within our heart. Now, with sorrow and much sadness We must leave you, From your dear protecting wings Now we must part. We shall ever sing your praises, Dear old Corinth, For within your lengthy halls We got our start. All our teachers and our classmates We'll remember, How we love them, l-low we'll miss them. Pushing onward, pushing upward, Corinth-l-lolders. You're our Guiding Star, the one We hold apart. Faye Hocutt Class Song Writer CLASS PUEM Sadness plays on our heartstrings Now as we say goodbye To all we've known and had and loved At dear old Corinth-l-ligh, For twelve long years, and some for more - We've come here every day To learn to work or just to play In the little schoolhouse so gay. At times it seemed a bit unfair For those around us to fuss But now we see through a darkened glass That it was just a must. As each of us goes out from here We wish to leave behind The long lived memory of our day And our happy thoughts so kind, Now, as we leave our place in school With jobs in the world to do lvlay God grant power, strength, and courage Sufficient to carry us through, Shirley High Class Poet -f . rf' 'f' 1 ff' ,I Si W L ,,. gl ,.,--f. ..
