Our time was well consumed by all the events new to us, but with the supervision of Mrs. William l-lill Powell, Jr. and Miss lola l-lofler we managed to overcome our hardships. ln our sophomore year, directed by Mr, Carroll and Mrs, Garner, we enjoyed watching the greenness of the Freshmen, forgetting that just one year ago we had played that same role, Our minds were soon filled with work, and timepassed us into our Junior year. Under the guidance of Miss Lyerly we had a most enioyable year. We presented a very successful play, Look Me in the Eye, and honored the Seniors at a Junior- Senior Banquet, carrying out the theme, Moonlight and Roses. Then, after spending three anxious months, we returned to the campus for our big year, the Senior year we had dreamed of and yet feared we would never reach. We had as our guide Miss Sadler. Some of our most thrilling events were: selecting our class rings, collecting material and organizing our annual, presenting our Senior play, and attending the Junior-Senior Banquet, Then-the wonderful event for which we had long awaited- Gzaduationl The thought of it all brings tears to our eyes, but momentarily we must turn our backs upon our Alma Mater and follow the well worn path into life to seek what it has in store for us, We feel with certainty that those who shall fill our places in the years to come, as well as we the Alumni, will ever proclaim our Alma Mater, showering upon it the credit of our accomplishments wherever we go JEANNE ALFORD, Class l-listorian Somew 61444 UMZCMA ff -' President . . . CLASS l'llllPllE Y One day as l was sitting in my office, my employer came in and dictated a letter to me. To my surprise it was to an old classmate, Robert Alford, who for the past ten years has been President of the First Citizens Bank in Raleigh. His secretary is Daisy Belle Creech, another classmate. Hearing the names of these two members of the class of 'Sl caused me to begin thinking about my other classmates and how successful they have been. Hugh Wilder, who was one of the leading members of our class, is editor of the News and Ob- server. Virginia Skinner is also on its staff as a reporter, We had quite a few athletic personalities in our class, and their names appear in sports stories all over the nation, Hazel Creech and Tillie Sue Hinton are finalists in the National Open Golf Tournament, Harold Hinton is the greatest star on the Washington Capital's basketball team and Emma Jeanne Alford is sports reporter for the State College Wolfpack. Three of our class members are in the medical profession, Thomas Barham is a well-known surgeon at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Dorothy Price is superintendent of nurses there and Appie Wor- ley is her assistant. Pat O'Neal, who was the best swimmer in our class, recently swam the English Channel. Geneva Richardson has just signed a contract with lvl-G-lvl and will soon be appearing in her first movie. Her clothes will be designed by Ruth Johnson, William Perry Wall, who is,also an M-G-lvl star, will be her leading man. Four members of the class have just returned from the first successful trip to the moon. They are Billy Flowers, Lloyd Tippett, Franklin Price, and Clifton Price, Doris Cooke is quite happy now. She is married to her army boy friend and is with him in Germany. Billy Powell, who has always been known for his great sense of humor, has taken Groucho lVlarx's place on the radio program You Bet Your Life, f His scriptwriter is his wife, the former Dorothy Hinton. Orlin Wilder is a pilot for Trans-World Airlines, His co-pilot is Cramer Brown, and Velma Eason is stewardess on the plane they fly, Jeanette Hinton will soon be presenting her first piano concert in Carnegie Hall. Annette Price is also in New York. She is reservation clerk at the Waldorf- Astoria Hotel. Charles Denton and Odell Atkinson own and operate the Universal Chevrolet Company in Wen- dell, Anna Hocutt, who was the most religious student in our class, is head of the Religion Depart- ment at LJ.N,C. Two of our class members are residing in Washington, D. C. Mary Lou Edwards is 'serving as Congresswoman from North Carolina and Talmage Harris is the President's personal body- guard. Several members of the class are living in Raleigh, Joseph Murphy is a well-known lawyer there, Ray Hocutt is projectionist at the Ambassador Theater, Helen Hocutt is manager of Ellisburgs and Clentis Phillips is cashier. Reba Poole has made her debut into North Carolina Society and is Ra- leigh's leading young hostess. After thinking of each of my classmates, I went back to work, pleased with the careers each of them had chosen, JOHNSTON COUNTY HERITAGE CENTER B, J, BLJNN, Class Prophet SMITHFIELD, N.C. B. J. Bunn Class Song Writer ULASS PUEM Oh, Senior Class of Corinth High Our praises to thee sing. We end our school days with a sigh To seek what life may bring. We realize that we must part Bidding our friends goodbye. Each memory that we have in heart Seems to our minds defy.
