CLASS HISTCRY Many people have often wanted to travel by ship, ln September of l944 our class of fifty students had our desire fulfilled as we boarded the Ship of Education Mr. Freeman served as our captain and his mates were: Mr, Brown, whom we lost, but Mrs. Lowry took his place, Miss Austin, and Miss Forsyth. Several of our crew started participating in the main school sports. Seven of our crew fell overboard this year for different causes. Work in the Sophomore year was with the same captain but two new matesi Mr. Moser and Miss Sullivan Out of our crew of thirty-eight members we lost two because of matrimony, Several of our crew achieved basketball suits, A few girls were chosen to serve at the junior-Senior Banquet, With work coming along well, we decided we'd better make a stop in june of '46 The crew of forty-five members, since we had several students join us from a neighboring school, boarded our ship with determination for success, We, the juniors, had Mrs. Valentine and Miss Britt as new mates but lost Mrs Valentine only to gain Mrs, l-lollifield to take her place. Class officers werei Carl Price, president, Charles johnson, vice-president, Aldeen Huopana, secretary, and Sarah Wilder, treas- urer. Love found its way among our juniors this year and we lost three of the crew. We had the pleasure of presenting a junior play, Life at Aunt Minnie's, and giving the Seniors a banquet Anne Boyette won basketball medals at the Kenly American Legion Tournament and johnston County Tournament. We elected the future staff of the school paper for the trip we would take next year, This staff published the last issue which we received on this trip just before we hit port on May l9th, l947. ln August l947, we boarded our ship for the last time, This our last voyage, we put all our hearts into it, We had a war veteran to join us but lost another member by marriage, making our crew number forty-two. Three new mates joined us to help put the finishing touches to the trip, They werei Miss I-lofler, Mrs. Powell, and Mr, Carswell, Class officers werei Charles johnson, president, Wilbur johnson, vice president, Aldeen l-luopana, treasurer, and Sarah Wilder, secretary. l-low we rejoiced as we chose and bought our rings on October 27, l947. One night on board the juniors gave us a banquet and great was the celebrity, toasts, and speeches. This last year we published a great book called The Corinthian, lnto it we put our exploits and memories of all our happy voyages. The great news was brought to us that we were to hit port never to sail on this ship again, but to board larger Sh'ps of Education and various other travels of life. We wish the next group who rides this ship as happy and successful a trip as we have had, MARY RUTH HINTON

SENIOR PROPHECY In the year l9S7, I stepped into the Pan-American to which I was assigned as hostess to make a cross-country flight. To my amazement, there as pilot was an old class-mate of mine, Alvin Narron, and Cecil Price as co-pilot. As the plane warmed up, the head mechanic, who was none other than Haywood Brantley, gave it final inspection. I began to check my passenger list and found that Sarah Howell and Charles Ray Raines were on board and l later learned that this was their honey- moon trip, They informed me that they were on their way to take in a show at the Stork Club featuring Charles lohnson's orchestra with Virginia Rae Creech featured as pianist, Upon reminiscing further, I learned that Buice Creech had settled on a farm with his childhood sweetheart and was still raising prize cows and hogs, and that Willie Thomasson had taken over management of the Wendell Theater. I learned that Sadie Mae Philipps was the community school teacher. Our plane took off and the first stop was Washington, D, C, We had a stop- over here and I encountered many of my old classmates. I met Rachel Murphy, who was secretary to Senator Taft, and we had lunch in the Strickland Brothers' cafe- teria---proprietors Bennet and Coleman. We talked together of our old classmates and I learned that Lois Parrish was their cashier, It was soon necessary for me to leave, and as I passed the White House, I saw a very distinguished person dressed in the robe of the Supreme Court. I saw that it was Marshall High. He told me he was on his way to the law office of Carl Price, a quite famous lawyer, for a con- ference on a matter soon to come up in the Supreme Court, He said that Sarah Wilder was Carl's very efficient secretary. l hailed a passing taxi to return to the airport and as it pulled over to the curb, I immediately recognized the driver as Willard Hinnant. During our conversation on the way to the airport, he told me that Douglas Parrish and Riley Narron were operating a pool room at Emit, N, C. Soon it was time for my plane to leave and as I passed through the crowded lobby, I recognized Eliza- beth Elowers. I stopped long enough to learn that she was enrolled in the john Hopkins' School of Nursing and that Billy Castleberry was interning there and making a big hit with the nurses, I walked with her to the reservation desk and to my sur- prise, Wilma Narron handed her the reservation, I bade my friends good-by and soon we were soaring into the air. Our next stop was Nashville, Tennessee, I walked down to our hotel and as I registered, I noticed three familiar names on the registry, They were Robin O'NeaI, David O'Neal, and Edward Green, When I came down that night, I ate dinner with Dave and Robin, who were hell-drivers with the State Eair and they informed me that Edward Creen was the favorite singer of the Crand Ole Opry fans. I also learned that Wilbur johnson was a scientist at Oak Ridge, helping study the facts of the atomic bomb. I again boarded my plane and we were soon headed west, Our next stop was New Orleans and here I went out to enjoy the Mardi-Cras, I met another old class- mate here, Helen Kemp, who was on vacation with her husband, who was a jewelers The plane was soon on its way toward its next stop, which was El Paso, Texas. We went out to enjoy the nationally famous rodeo and found that lohn Skinner was the star. We learned that he was riding one of the famous Boyette horses which was raised on the Thomas Boyette ranch.
