ZENA JACOBS, Second Grade. enior Class History Classmates, for many years now, we have been sitting in the cinders, so to speak. We will think of the cinders as the work years we spent in high school. We have been trudging along, acquiring the fundamentals of education and the art of living with ourselves and one another. Sitting in the cinders has not been so bad.because we have had happy and gay times together. We have obeyed with meekness and humility the rules and regulations of Cinderland. All worthwhile things are gained by a price. We have paid that price as we have written our history through these years. ln the year of 1942, a group of Freshmen, now known as Seniors, entered high school under the leadership of Mrs. Watson and Mr. Ensor. We felt so mature and experienced at first, to actually be in high school, but our Sophomore friends soon put us in our places, and made us feel our freshness. We took up our diverse studies and the changing of classes energetically and enthusiastically under our new teachers. We experienced the thrills and good times that only Freshmen can, through a happy year. With'our Sophomore title, we also undertook more responsibilities in outside activities, as well as in our school work. Our teachers during that year were Mrs. Watson, Miss Austin, and Mr. Ensor. Our third year in high school was an enjoyable one. We felt quite important as tenth graders. As we looked back over our records and activities in high school, they seemed unimportant and small to us. We resolved to do bigger and better things. We began to fulfill our resolution by first helping to present our annual Hallowe'en Carnival. It was a hugesuccess and helped us a great deal financially. We presented our first class play, f'Marrying Margaret, which increased our funds for giving our 'friends the Seniors of '44, .a .lunior-Senior Banquet. Mr. Freeman was our new principal that year. Our fourth year in high school was a memorable one. We felt all of our importance by being eleventh graders. That year we presented another class play, l Will, l Won'tl , which truly proved to be a success. Miss Austin was our sponsor. Now, we have come to the portal leading out into life. This last year in our high school has been one of combined study and pleasure. We have grown somewhat beyond the grind of the Junior year into the larger freedom that goes with being Seniors. in the fall of '45, the graduating students of Archer Lodge School, together with the graduating students of Corinth Holder School, met to form what is now the Seniors of '46. Our class is the first graduating class from the twelfth grade, and we deeply feel proud and honored at this wonderful opportunity. We have enrolled in the Senior Class 29 students, 8 which ioined us from Archer Lodge. They are .Charles Barnes, Jake Barnes, Sallie Sue Barnes, Silas Cooke, Carolyn Eason, Pauline Gardner, Maxine Pleasants, and Dan Wall. It was a modern comedy which made a real hit with our audience. Next was the Junior-Senior Banquet that the Junior Class gave. It was formal and the decorations included both of the classes' colors. We, the Seniors of,'46, have had the most versatile year, and have enioyed every minute of it-even classes. We grew to know and love each other and our teachers, and many of us found friendships that have lasted and grown together, and which we hope will continue. But now we have reached the end of the 'year, and of our high school course, and we must start again as Freshmen. We are entering a life new and untried, but with the confidence that we shall graduate from it at last with honors. We, the Class of '46, look forward to graduation with the purpose of carrying on our schooI's honor and traditions. Thus we soy, Hail and Farewell Corinth Holder School, from the Class of '46. -HAZEL BUNN, Historian. THE CLIMAX Now we've come to the end of our Senior year We sit here alone with our thoughts.. The chimes ring out in a melodious strain For joys the twelve years have brought. Do you know what the end of these glad years Can mean to our loyal hearts? Our school days, are over and as we' reach our goal The dear friends have to part. Yes, this is the end of the perfect years Near the start of a iourney too. It leaves us sad but with great memories That will always be fond and true. Surely experience has touched these brief years And left heartoches that never fade. But we find at the end of these perfect years The souls of the friends we've made. -IRENE HUOPANA, Poet. CHARLES E. Vice-President SALLY HINTON . . . . Secretory GEORGE HENRY BELL . . Treasurer Claes Prop ieoy As I walked into the Land of Tomcrrcw I saw John Narron as manager of the Cardinals baseball club. In the field of science I saw Maxine Pleasants as a great laboratory technician. Irene Huopana had changed her life from a laboratory tech- nician to be the wife of Junior May. Fletcher Stancil had finished Oak Ridge and was now a lieutenant in Uncle Sam's Army. The most religious student in the class was Hazel Bunn and l saw her on her first missionary trip to China. In the field of matrimony I saw Sallie Sue Barnes the wife of the country's leading playboy, Harold Boyette. I also saw Ada Mae Creech marrying one of her childhood sweet- hearts. It really took her a long time to make up her mind. Helen Davis had now finished King's Business College and was the secretary of our governor. Among those who desired a beauty course so much, l saw Pauline Gardner had just completed her course and was now a private hairdresser for her cousin, Ava Gardner in Hollywood. I also saw Velma Creech and Mary Ellen Cooke had both finished their courses and now own a fine beauty shop. During our school days all we could hear was Carolyn Eason wanting a motor- cycle. Ncw that he has one he has started his own motorcycle business. Although we had a very smart class, we had only one inventor, Dan Wall, and his favorite invention was kissproof lipstick. I saw that we had two members of our class that had settled down to good old farming. James Congleton was finally talked out of joining the Navy by Rachel Moody and is now a successful farmer. There was also Allene Ellis, who married Louis Driver and settled down on the red clay near Middlesex. Herbert Price made such a success in publishing the school paper and annual that he was the editor of our daily paper. Out of such a large class we had only one nurse, Eloise Hocutt, and she married a doctor from Rex Hospital. Charles Barnes had so many wrecks during his school year that he decided to open up a used car business to catch up on some old car and motorcycle repairing. We had several students to talk about going to Meredith but we had one who could take it. Imogene Narron graduated from Meredith and she is really going places. Louise Thomasson sold so many oatmeal cookies in the school store that she decided to cpen a bakery of her own. I saw Bobby Rex Brown and Hursell Fowler partners in a small pool room in Zebulon and doing fine patronizing their own business. I saw Silas Cooke stjll at the same old routine, a farmer during the week and a wolf in Clayton during the weekend. Charles Wilder had graduated from Carolina and I saw him keeping accounts for the Rockefeller Trust Company. Connie Mack Bunn had overcome his clumsiness and was now an expert iewelerrnan. Maude Pope was now a successful manager of the waitresses in a large cate in New York. The smallest of the class, Jesse Dwight High, was now in the town of Wendell walking between rows of tobacco wiping sweat and chanting the auctioneers' song. -JAKE BARNES, Prop-7 eR enior Play Cast OH, PROMISE ME!
