Jeorge Spei cfenner Dedication The Senior Class would like to dedicate this Yearbook to a man whom we all feel a great deal of admiration and respect for. Besides being the head of our Athletic Department he has played a major role in our lives here at Corinth Central School. He has helped us many times with projects other than those having to do with athletics. We can never forget his ready smile and constant will to help. There are many words which we could say but the word that comes to mind most is thank you. So now the Class of 1968 ends this dedication to a fine man and friend with a final word of heart-felt thanks. It is with great pleasure that we dedicate this yearbook to you Mr. George Spieldenner. r?.'reecfom S7s a JfaSit Freedom is a habit and a coat worn some born to wear it some never to know it. Freedom is cheap or again as a garment is so costly men pay their lives rather than not have it. Freedom is baffling: men having it often know not they have it till it is gone and they no longer have it. What does this mean? Is it a riddle? Yes, it is First of all in the primers of riddles. To be free is so-so: you can and you can’t: walkers can have freedom only by never walking away their freedom: runners too have freedom unless they overrun: eaters have often outeaten their freedom to eat and drinkers overdrank their fine drinking freedom. —Carl Sandburg RONALD L. FOLTS, Supervising Principal THOMAS N. PALMATIER, High School Principal Uo the Gfass of 1968 I am always a little self-conscious when I compose a yearbook message. Yearbooks have a way of emerging from obscure places as the decades pass—old pictures and associations, you know—and the prose set down for eternity has a way of echoing embarrassingly back down the stairway of the years in shapes and meanings that were never intended. Certainly, I should urge you to stand erect, carry yourselves with dignity, continue your education, learn to know yourselves, to dissent responsibly, to love one another. I believe all of this. I hope you do too. But to the young, death and old age are things that happen to other people. You want to get where the action is. So—enough of preachy advice! Let me simply say from all of us teachers—who have been much more con- cerned about you than most of you now realize—to all of you seniors approach- ing graduation that we wish you happiness and good fortune along the way. You are wise indeed if you know that it isn’t going to be all success or happiness. The days of your years will be shadowed now and again by all the heart-breaking in- stances of human inadequacy and failure, including your own. When you learn that you must laugh occasionally just to keep from crying then you will have acquired a sense of proportion, a measure of wisdom, of grace and style, of self-knowledge, of sympathy for one another—and you will have come around full circle to what we were preaching about in the first place. And you will have done it pretty much on your own too. You just have to live it according to the particular drummer who is beating the cadence for you. Anyway, in this venture—sometimes rewarding, always exciting—let us again wish you good luck, courage, and beyond these, an abiding sense of humor. Sincerely, Thomas N. It is a wonderful experience to spend some time in a country that is so near to our own, but yet so different in many of its customs and ideas. This was the first time our school had taken part in the Exchange Program, so I didn’t know what to expect, and as a result, I was very nervous. However, the family I stayed with was very nice to me, and they made my stay extremely enjoy- able. I lived with the Mijares family in Monterrey, which is the third largest city in Mexico. I stayed in Monterrey for the whole summer, with the exception of one week which I spent in Mexico City as a part of a guided tour, with the other Amer- ican exchange students. The Mijares house was very nice and had all the modern day luxuries. This is one indication of the rapid progress Mexico is making in de- veloping into a wealthy nation. While I stayed with this family, I was accepted as part of the family, and I was expected to do my share of the chores around the house. The Mijares made sure I had every opportunity to witness the Mexican customs, and also to see much of the country. I went to several soccer games, to two serenades, and to a bullfight, along with many sightseeing trips. During the summer I went to a Mexican school for about two hours each day. The courses included basic Spanish and Mexican culture. Mexico City is a fascinating place and our week stay there was nice. It is one of the largest cities in the world and it is very beautiful. While in Mexico City, we had a chance to see the places where the 1968 Summer Olympics will be held. I am very grateful to all those who helped to make this so successful. It was sponsored by the Student Council and without the constant work of Mr. Matino, it never would have been possible. Seoen A o M. MOYNIHAN ROW 1: M. Cowles, C. Chandler, S. Clothier, D. Third grade was the start of a new career in the brand new elementary and high school. The moving up to the high school broadened our personalities and we met and made many new friends. This was the first time we had been together as a class and looking back at it now it was a momentous occasion with the climax being our graduation this June, 1968. Sixth grade finalized our years of learning in the elementary wing. Mrs. Woodside, Mr. Powell, Mrs. McKnight, and Mr. Smith played an important part in preparing us for high school. Mrs. Woodside thought of many of us as angels but we knew better. We now found ourselves overwhelmed by all the very large people. The teachers, classes, and the overall responsibilities proved to be an enormous challenge. Eighth and ninth grades were highlighted by some of us being inducted into the National Junior Honor Soci- ety. We also look back on the fun we had on the Honor Society picnic and the class picnic at the end of ninth grade with Mrs. Burroughs. Tenth grade was the year we all became acquainted with Mr. Eric Windus and the very basic fundamentals of biology. Some were fortunate and persevering enough to be induct- ed into the National Senior Honor Society. Our Junior year was one filled with many happy and fun-filled memories. We received our class rings, one of the big decisions that faced us as Juniors. Next came our Junior Prom entitled “Moonlight and Roses.” The highlight of the evening came when we crown- ed our queen, Kate Hathway. We can never forget the aftermath which included a dinner at the Imperial and bowling at the High Rock in Saratoga. The most fun was probably at the picnic after at Sacandaga and other places where we all tried our hand at cooking hotdogs and making fires if nothing else to keep warm. Last but not least came our most important year, the year we had all been awaiting, our Senior Year. We started the year with dances which were few and far between. Our Christmas Ball was entitled “Sleigh Ride”, with the Siena Collegians as our orchestra. This was the last of our major projects until graduation exercises. We would like to end our history at Corinth Central School with great many thanks and deep appreciation to all those who contributed to making our years happy and rewarding ones. The list would be too long if we mentioned all those who have given their time and understanding and because the list would be endless, the Class of 1968 makes their appreci- ation known to all who have helped in preparing for our future and all that lies ahead.
