Text from Pages 1 - 120 of the 1967 volume:

DEDICATION With them the seed of wisdom did I sow, And with my own hand labour’d it to grow: The class of 1967 is happy to express to you a feeling which has persisted in our hearts for four years. The hours we spent in your class still represent to us a truly unique experience. Never were we stifled by a typical class- room situation. A class period was a time to work and to learn with the help of a willing friend. You were never ashamed to let your concern for the stu- dent show nor were you preoccupied with only a favored few. You cared about each of us and our problems and made all of us aware that we were important to you. Perhaps most significant, you have not forgotten us in the four years since you last taught us. Our relationship did not end with the posting of our final grades. Your interest and encouragement have re- mained constant through these succeeding years. It is for this reason and for your outstanding qualities that we have chosen to honor you. IN MEMORIAM The time has come when we, the Senior Class, has to look back, and in our memories we see a vivid picture of a vibrant boy, who had a wonderful sense of humor. This boy was Larry Boutelle. Larry entered into our lives in sixth grade and he is now etched in our hearts forever. Larry, who had travelled a great deal, was always seen entrancing students with his accounts of his travels. When Larry spoke, everyone listened attentively. There was never a person who could make friends and keep them as Larry did. As years go by and we are looking back on our elementary and high school days, we will always picture Larry sitting in front of his teachers with tha inno- cent look that he had. We, the Senior Class, wish to leave our yearbook in memory of this boy, Larry Boutelle. RONALD L. FOLTS, Supervising Principal THOMAS N. PALMATIER, High School Principal A YEARBOOKS UESSA6E TO THE. SENIOR CLASS Early in the 17th century an English churchman, John Donne, preached a sermon en- titled ‘ Now This Bell Tolling Softly For Another . . Over the centuries since that time the concluding words have reverberated: “No man is an islande entire of itselfe.’ If we penetrate the sonorities of Donne’s Elizabethan rhetoric, we know that he speaks today, as he did then and will eternally, of our responsibility to others. Turn the pages of this yearbook and see the many things that happened to you and your school this year just because some people cared enough to make them happen: your dances, plays, sports events, tours, musical evenings, club activities — even the creation of this yearbook. Not a single one of these is required, yet some people — students and teachers — believed they were important and planned them, organized them, carried them through. You will note that these people did not despair - and they did not drop out. They saw a responsibility. As we grow up we realize more meaningfully that everything we say and do and stand for is a reflection on our families, our school, and our community. The carelessly dropped litter on every hand, the heedless remark, the fear of commitment to any difficult, the coarse indifference to the sensitivities of others: these are the signs of irresponsibility, cow- ardice, and contempt. Let us be thankful then for those students and teachers who move among us everyday, usually unrecognized, giving your life and mine a finer dimension and purpose. In some way they are more sharply attuned to tne Dei is tolling ot duty, involvement, responsi Dility. Sincerely Thomas N. Palmatier the board of education EARL McKNIGHT B. Little did we know when we entered our mysterious and confusing high school as seventh graders that it would one day be so endeared to our hearts. Now we prepare to leave but the many fond memories of our own Alma Mater will forever be cherished. 1 he year 1962 marked the end ol grade school and the beginning of high school. We were forced to learn the familiar surroundings we had all known where our lives were daily routines as a result of the careful training given to us by our “steady” teachers. Although our destination was but a short path, a strange new world appeared before our eyes. We timidly approached the doors of our present high school, ready to embark on a new journey for knowledge. This we slowly but surely found, but, first everyone had the task of becoming acquainted with one strange and hectic life in one huge building. One ring of a bell was the signal used for the changing of classes. Many times throughout our years of high school the ringing of that bell meant a great deal and many times an eternity seemed to pass before it rang. However, the changing of classes was something new and exciting to all of us; the opportunity to attend dan- ces and ride the routers bus to games were just a few of the privileges we were granted. Without an unusual amount of difficulty we made it through the seventh and eighth grades. Near the end of the eighth grade we became aware that plans for the future had to be made. Thus, each made up his own curriculum which he followed throughout high school. Finally we were freshmen, no longer a part of the junior high, but full fledged members of the senior high school. It was during this year that various opportunities arose tojoin organiza- tions such as the student council, a relatively new institution at that time. Our sophomore year passed quickly, but it still had its rewards. Several students were now eligible for induction into the senior honor society, a symbol of outstanding achievement. Upon entering our junior year, we soon found that it was to be without doubt, the most diffi- cult academically, but certainly the most fun. The election of class officers was something new to all of us but under the supervision of our advisor. Mr. Comings, our choices were made and they were soon found hard at work trying to organize our class and getting it started on its way Before long, we began to have dances and in February everyone was excited about the long- awaited arrival of our class rings. After months of hard work the highlight of our junior year took place on May 22 — our Junior Prom, entitled “Tender Is The Night,” with Phil Foote and his orchestra. It was a wonderful success and certainly proved to be worth the long hours of ef- fort put into it. Exam time arrived and passed, summer came and went and once again we were back at Cor- inth Central, only this time as seniors. Everyone, realizing that it was our last year, decided to make it the best one ever. Magazine sales, the sale of refreshments at games and our Friday night dances were our sources of income and they all reaped a huge profit which was put to good use on our Christmas Ball entitled “Silver Bells.” Now, as time elapses quickly and commencement is in the very near future, we find that an undesirable thought enters our minds; the thought that we dread leaving C. C. S. Though our departure is unavoidable, we will always be grateful to all of our understanding teachers, our advisors, and everyone responsible for guiding us through the most important years of our life.
