on the frrst rung of the hrgh school ladder Most of that frrst week rn thrs new burldrng found us frrghtened and lost but capably gurded by Mrss Cooney Mr Krssel M1ss Scott and Mrs Grlmore we soon knew our way around Berng rn thrs hrgh school burldrng was very fascrnatrng for us We were all delrghted to change classes every 45 mrnutes and to have our very own street lockers Another prrvrlege whrch came our way that year was the opportunrty to attend hrgh school dances whrch we drd so farthfully As we started erghth grade we were rndeed proud to be able to show the new seventh graders around WE had progressed another step up the ladder Mrs Grlmore, Mr Vroman and Mr Fragassr had therr hands full wrth our norsy and actrve group Drane Mrllrs gave the erghth grade speech on our annual movrng up day Srnce most of our class had survrved the terrrfyrng regents we were rndeed proud Freshmen Now we were rn 1-hgh School facrng many more problems We were no longer 1n Junror Hrgh a new phase of our lrfe was Just begrnnrng The prevrous sprrng some of the gtrls rn our class had been selected as cheerleaders whrch meant that they had to attend all the basketball games and cheer our team The boys who had gone out for rntra mural sports saw for the frrst trme how very hard rt could be Thrs year for the frrst trme we could choose some of the su rects that we would l1ke to take We realrzed then that we had to decrde on a vocatron Wrth thrs rn mrnd we went to work on our new subjects frndrng that our passrng mark was 65 rnstead of 75 as rn the past Many trmes our teachers would d1sm1ss us from class a brt early so that we mrght have a peek at our new and wonderful burldrng whrch was gorng up all around us We clrmbed hrgher on our ladder as we entered the tenth grade Many new and rmportant thrngs began to happen to us Some of us were rnvrted to Jorn the Lrbrary Club whrch meant rnrtratron for every new member One day was set asrde for thrs purpose and rt was rndeed hr larrous to see everyone dressed rn costumes that bordered on the rrdrculous In January the mem bers of our class who had attamed the requlred average were tnducted rnto the honor socrety dur rng a very IITIPICSSIVC ceremony They were guests at a tea tn therr honor whrch was held after the program Many trmes we would leave school and watch the demolrtron work on the Old Red Burldrng a place 1n whrch much of our earlrer educatron had been recerved and a place that wrll lrnger long rn our memorres even as the burldrng rtself lS now a memory In September 1958 we entered our Junror Year under the supervrsron of Mrss Armstrong and Mr Conway We started our magazrne sales whrch were a terrrfrc success For the frrst trme rn our lrves we ate our lunches rn the beautrful and spacrous new cafeterra and the new wmg of our school housrng the offrces busrness and homemakrng departments was open for use Thrs year as our class offrcers we elected Brlly Joe Cromre Presrdent Paulette Langlars Vrce Presrdent Jodre VanDerwerker Treasurer Mary Carol Lyford Secretary Thrs year saw the formatton of the Future Teachers of Amerrca Organrzatron rn our school and several members of our class enrolled and became actrve partrctpants In February of 1959 we recerved our class rrngs whrch urged us to work Just a lrttle brt harder every trme that we looked at the year 1960 engraved on them In Aprrl a foretaste of our Senror Year came our way when we had the responsrbtlrty for the promotron of school dances At last rt was trme to plan for the brggest dance of all our Junror Prom We worked d1l1 gently for long hours and on June 18th the great event was held Carol Eaton was selected as our lovely queen and her escort Nell Sesselman was Krng Our Senror Year started wrth the electron of offrcers Loughran Boggs was chosen as presr dent Paulette Langlars vrce presrdent Jodte VanDerwerker treasurer and Mary Carol Lyford secretary Joan Doherty was our excellent chorce for Chalrman of Acttvrtres Secure rn our mrnds as to the strength and worth of our offrcers we plunged rnto our money makrng actrvrtres such as sellrng Chrrstmas cards sponsorrng dances sellrng popcorn coke potato chrps and coffee at games dances and anyplace we thought we could sell We worked very hard on our yearbook sales and were very proud to frnd that we had sold more than any other class had pre vrously
