k Dedication Because it is the basis of our town's exis- tence, and the livelihood of many of its in- habitants, we the class of 1959 dedicate this yearbook with sincere appreciation to the In- ternational Paper Company. The Senior Class of 1959 Dear Mr. Smaldone, At the advent of our senior year we found our- selves with a new senior advisor. This job required much patience and understanding. Through thick and thin this appointment called for undying tolerance. The office was faced with the task of choosing a suitable candidate and they did so in appointing you. With clear vision and foresight you guided us through this very important year. We shall always remem- ber our advisor and the kindness he bestowed upon us. Sincerely, The Senior Class 1959 Yearbook Staff CO-EDITORS A. Beaudette L. Kenyon COPY ADVERTISING J. Mosher N. Pitkin N. Mosher K. Whitaker A. Beaudette P. Wilming L. Kenyon F. Forbriger Supervising Principal's Message Wisdom is composed of sound phi- losophy, a good memory, knowledge and foresight. It has been the ambition and desire of each member of the faculty that each student when leaving Corinth Central School will have formulated a sound phi- losophy of life, that he will have de- veloped an excellent memory and ac- quired a wealth of knowledge, all of which will better fit him for his place in life. A nation falls when people lose faith in God, love of country, and respect for the rights of others. Ever keep foremost in your mind that you are a principal part of a nation. William D. Banks Principal's Message When you as a Senior realize that graduation is not a long way into the future but is almost here, you know that the time has come to make some kind of self-appraisal. Your schooldays have all too quickly slipped by and you do not have much more time to shape yourself to the kind of person you always intended to be. For what you are as a distinct personality - your humanity, your own individ- ual sense of values - even more than what you know will determine your success and happiness in life. It is not enough to have learned to use the tools your education supplies you: English, science, mathematics, history. It is also necessary to learn to use them wisely. To the subject matter we hope you have learned must be added your personal integrity, your willingness to work, and your understanding attitude toward all your associ- ates. Your knowledge, then, is effective only to the de- gree that you make it work. You, as a civilized, humane personality, are more important than what you may know - a whole is always greater than any of its parts. So I should like to suggest that to the familiar three R’s you have studied, you add three T's: Truth, Toler- ance, Trying. These, certainly, are essential to a real education. I am sure you already realize that I am proud of our students here in Corinth and that I wish for all of you the very best that life may offer. A suitable name had to be selected for this organiza- tion. Since the club's purpose is to further the in- terests of those who are prospective educators, it was unanimously decided by the members to have the name, the Hazel A. Gilmore Future Teachers of America Club. Her loyalty and many years of ser- vice to Corinth Central School have been an inspira- tion to all who have come in contact with her. The editors of this yearbook acting as representa- tives of the entire student body, wish the very best to Mrs. Gilmore upon her retirement in June. Her presence in the coming years will be acutely missed. We shall never forget her unselfish concern for each individual student. JOHN KLEM Class History In the fall of 1953 we were totally unaware that one of the most memorable occasions in our lives was about to take place. This event was our introduction to a new and wonderful world called high school. Miss Lindsey, Miss Scott and Mr. Spieldenner guided us through that period of complete bewilderment and confusion, and soon we became accustomed to the procedures of the seventh grade. Before we knew it, though, we were promoted to the eighth grade, where we were to discover more of those never-ending new experiences. With the aid of Mr. Guarino and Mr. Fragassi we planned our high school schedules and survived those dreaded Regents exams, which didn’t turn out to be so difficult after all. As this year drew to a close, we proceeded on our merry way to the ninth grade. We continually kept Miss Brown, Miss McCann, and Mrs. Jenkins on their toes subduing us noisy freshmen. Many of the boys became ardently involved in sports and a few of the more fortunate girls be- came cheerleaders. We were really being drawn into the colorful activities of the school. With our class picnic bringing a happy ter- mination to our freshman year, we found ourselves sophomores. Under the direction of Miss Brown and Mrs. Jenkins we Sober Sophomores found ourselves not so serious. Library Club initiations proved to be hilarious and some of us were inducted into the Honor Society. Then, with enthusiastic abandon, we rushed into our Junior year. Starting with a bang, we had the highest magazine sales accredited to the Corinth Central School. We elected Edmund Plummer our President; Dennis Hickey, Vice President; Nancy White, Secretary; and Joseph Grady, Treasurer. In January we were sorry to see Mr. Sprague leave to a well-deserved promotion, but Mrs. McKnight ably filled the vacant position. We found ourselves busily occupied in editing our newspaper and preparing for the Junior Prom. Both of these projects proved successful leaving us with a proud feeling of ac - complishment the shade was drawn on this eventful year. And now, we can hardly believe that we are Seniors. After the votes were taken we found Edmund Plummer running for his second term as President; Anita Beaudette, Vice President; Jean Wheaton, Secretary; Joseph Grady, Treasurer; and Linda Kenyon, Chairman of Activities. With the strong shoulders of Mr. Smaldone to lean on we organized dances, sold Christmas cards, and had a food sale. With great anticipation we prepared for our Yearbook and with unbelievable success. We became interested in the acting profession during rehear- sals for our Senior Play. What excitement we felt as we received the payoff to all our hard work, our Washington trip! It was a thrilling experience to see the Washington Monument and other historic sights. In New York we saw a broadway play and roamed through the gigarfiic stores. When we returned home we knew that this was a wonderful adventure that we would never forget. Now we look forward to the biggest day of our live?. Graduation Day! Here on the threshold of adulthood we will always remember these years of childhood and school as the happiest of our lives. Varsity Basketball % Our basketball team has been a quite successful one this year. Beginning November 22, 1958, our players were faced with many new competitors upon entering the Northern Con- ference. In spite of this new and stiff competition, our team was one to be proud of. They were not as successful as many of our teams have been but they still showed the fighting spirit combined with good sportsmanship that our school is known for. The people of this town and school have a right to take pride in their team and its accomplishments. Congratula- tions, boys, for a job well done! SECOND ROW: R.Guiterrez, L. Boggs, J. Green, F.
