Corinth ian Senior Class 1S5H It's just the little things that we remember from our high school years: the friendly hi's as we pass through the halls, the proud sense of accomplishment when someone said well done, the warm friend- liness of our own gang around the lockers, the feel- ing of belonging together whenever the Alma Mater - is sung. These are the incidents that we will recall long after we have forgotten the big occasions. These are the things that make our school unforgettable. 'Dedication Because she is so kind and thoughful to each one of us, has been an inspiration to us in all our thoughts and acts, has been so willing to help us and devote her time to our many problems, we in appreciation of all her efforts dedicate the 1957 Corinthian to Mrs. Marion Jenkins. The Senior Class of 1957 IN MEMORIAM Kind memories like the heath of flowers Add grace and beauty to the passing hours. The Senior Class - '57 CORINTH CENTRAL SCHOOL Dear Mrs. Wildenberg, It seems like only yesterday we were sitting in our two room school house in South Corinth. There were about twenty boys and girls in each room and you were teaching grades five - seven at convenient intervals. On the very cold days, we pupils brought the ingredients for cocoa, and all morning this aroma from the hot plate drifted through the classroom. Then during recess we'd all go to the shelf in the cloak room and get the cup which had our name on it, tramp to the stove and sample the hot cocoa. When a student became ill, you saw to it that cards and sometimes even a sunshine basket would arrive to lift his spirits. Those of us living in the country remember how you were always willing to transport us to the dentist, the doctor, to shopping areas, or to church school. Each swimming trip, day hike, trip to Lake George, Lake Luzerne, Albany or Saratoga was always more fun than the one that we had taken the year before. You always said you couldn't draw a straight line or sing a note, but you did your best to make up for the physical education, art and music teachers that we didn't have. We won't forget our daily game of baseball. With you as pitcher and ump, and thirty students divided into two teams; we always had an enjoyable game. We shall remember you for your inspiring courage, and willingness to help others; your friends, neighbors, church groups and students. Your cheerful spirit was always wel- comed by all. F rom the students to whom you gave so much. if Dear Mr. Martel, Since we entered high school, we have looked forward to becoming seniors. Now that the year has almost ended we realize what a happy time we have had together. Under your guidance it has been all we an- ticipated. You have helped us see our way clear, through many problems which per- plexed us, and each endeavor has been a success. We would like to thank you now for all your help, and tell you what a friend you have been to each of us. We’ll always remember your kindness. Sincerely, The Senior Class 1957 MR. WALTER GREEN MR. Four years ago the time of graduation seemed a long way off, but now it is almost here and one wonders where the time has gone. Some will be glad they have reached this milestone; others realize almost abruptly the situation facing them ahead and wonder if they have made the best of their time, if they have truly prepared them- selves to the best of their abilities. The Board of Education, administration, and your teachers sincerely hope you have done just that. It has been their earnest endeavor to prepare you for this step. Rest assured that whatever has been done has been with your interest in mind, and in preparation for this step, that you might leave your school properly prepared for the future. Good luck and God speed. Sincerely, 2) William D. Banks, Supervising Principal OFFICE STAFF LURENA MONTGOMERY, MARY JANE MURPHY, MAE DURKEE. Year after year they leave me As they leave their outgrown books. And I wonder sometimes if I’ve taught them Just some of the worthwhile things. Just some of the things they'll need in life Be they peasants or poets or kings. Have I taught them the joy of clean living, That honor is better than fame, That good friends are the greatest of treasures. Wealth, less than an untarnished name? Have I taught them respect to the aged. Protection to those that are weak. That silence is golden When gossip bids them speak? Have I taught them that fear is a coward Who is beaten when they say I can ? That courtesy ranks with courage In the heart of the real gentleman? Have I taught them these things and the others That will help make them brave, kind, and true. If I have, then I eare not if they tell me. That Irkutsk is a town in Peru. The End SCHOOL DAYS It was in 1951 that the Class of '57 started its rampage through the high school. We were in the seventh grade, but to look at us you would not have known it. We were supervised by Mr. Vroman, Mr. Groff, and Mr. Spieldenner and we can assure you it wasn't an easy job. We were continuously using the wrong stairs, speeding to our classes, and forgetting our locker combinations. When we entered eighth grade with Miss Wilson, Mrs. Gilmore and Mr. Church guiding us, we began to settle down. Four Regents exams were facing us. This was a new, but not too delightful experience. We also had to decide on what high school courses we would need for our future professions. Are we actually in high school? Several of us wondered about this question for we thought ninth grade would be much harder than it was. We found ourselves commanded by Mr. Metersky, Miss Armstrong, and Miss Lindsay. We couldn't have been too naughty for we went on our first class picnic that year and what fun we had! Here we are, sober sophomores, and prepared for anything. Some of us were fortu- nate enough to be tapped for Honor Society while the rest of us continued working hard. We all wanted the four credits which would make us Jolly Juniors. Well, what do you know, we made it! Right away we began selling magazines to help finance our trip to Washington next year. Then, before we could catch our breath, we were ordering our class rings which were received with many shouts of joy. At last, we had merited this honor. As the year came to a close, we concentrated on our Junior - Senior Prom which proved to be a big success and a thrill for everyone. We entered our senior year in high school in September of 1956. Under the guidance of Mr. Martel, we elected class officers and money-making activities were begun with much enthusiasm. We held dances, sold coke and potato chips, held a senior play, You Can't Take It With You, which several members of our class participated in, and our sale of cards gave our budget the final lining which we thought was needed. The climax of our year came with the trip to Washington and New York, which we had been patiently waiting for. We saw countless places of importance and enjoyed every moment of the nine days we were gone. Where did the days and years go, we wonder? We feel happy and proud to be graduating, but very sad to be leaving the friends that we have known during our high school years at Corinth Central. We will always remember the teachers who guided us and the many friendships we found during our happy hours spent in school. Succc4 S vuf The end of the 1956 football season found Corinth and Burnt Hills co-champions of the Saratoga County League. The Tomahawks won their first football championship by achieving the brilliant record of six wins and one tie. Although this was only our fourth year in organized football, we entered the season with high hopes. Everyone believed that we had the top team in the league, and they were right. The Tomahawks showed the rest of the league that ours was the team to beat when they swamped Greenwich 33-0 in the first game. Under the capable coaching of Mr. Spieldenner and Mr. Crawley, they defeated Ballston, Cambridge, St. Peters, and Salem; outscoring these teams 80-12. Kayo” led the scoring with four touchdowns, and Joe Grady was next with three, while Gary Rowland, Ralph White and Phil Baugh provided excellent defense. Even the school band lent a helping hand by supporting the cheering section and entertaining during the halves. Finally we reached the big game. One question was asked by every- one - could we match undefeated Burnt Hills? They were at top strength, while two of our players were out, and two more were still suffering from earlier injuries. In spite of this, and a steady drizzle, spirits were high as the game began. Although both teams played hard ball, neither could penetrate the other's line, and the game ended a 0-0 tie which left us in first place. The next week, the Tomahawks rounded out the season by defeating our old rivals. South High, 27-6, in a non-league game. On the same day, Burnt Hills beat Ballston to tie us for the league championship. VARSITY First row: Towers, Crawley, White, Parker, timekeeper; Hayes, Lawson, Woods, Myers, Kehoe, Coach Craw- ley, Randall, Berg, Ticknor, John, Willman, Scorekeeper. The 1956-57 basketball season brought to Corinth Central the second sports’ championship this year. The Tomahawks lost two of their fourteen league games and both of these defeats were at the hands of Ballston Spa, last year’s champions. Corinth clenched the Saratoga County Championship when they defeated Stillwater in their thirteenth game and lost their last game to second-place Ballston by only four points. The Corinth Jayvees followed in the Varsity's footsteps by winning the Saratoga Junior League, finishing with a perfect overall record of eighteen wins and no losses; giving us high hopes for next year's Varsity. JUNIOR VARSITY First row: Dewey, Bean, Coach Spieldenner, Hickey. Second row: Gouterrace, Mc- Cannah, Plummer, Healy, Grady, Montena, Myers, Viele, Bush, Smith, Rowland, Sess- leman. Gym classes buzzed as Miss Spieldenner and Mr. Crawley helped us with the formalities of hiring a band and renting special properties. We discussed themes, hashed over ideas, and finally arrived at a decision. We would have a Make Believe Ball- room. Then the long awaited day arrived, Saturday, June 23. All day we decorated and transformed the gym into a magic wonderland of pink and blue. That night as we entered the school, Corinth was forgotten and a dream world took its place. A fountain cast rainbows on the couples as they danced to the music of Johnny Kuznia. We truly had a night to remember! THE LITTLEST ANGEL . . .was exactly four years, five days, seven hours, and forty-two minutes of age when he presented his small self to the venerable Gate-Keeper and waited for admittance to the Glorious Kingdom of God. On an Eternal Day of an Eternal Month in the Year Eternal, he was directed to present his small self before an Angel of the Peace. He slowly approached a doorway which was surmounted by a pair of golden scales, signifying that Heavenly Justice was dispensed within. ... He found himself perched on the lap of the understanding Angel, and was explaining how very difficult it was for a boy who suddenly finds himself transformed into an angel. The whole trouble was that there wasn’t anything for a small angel to do. . . .Then the rough, unsightly box of the Littlest Angel began to glow with a bright, unearthly light that blinded the eyes of the angels. Earthly eyes, blinded, too, by its splendor, could never know that this gift was what all men would call forever THE SHINING STAR OF BETHLEHEM ea,'C'ttec£a, . 0 i auing Is Turi This is HI3toil Jrash And His Class SENIOR PERSONALITIES NAME FIRST FAVORITE GLIMPSE PASTIME Balcom Pert Talking Brady Nice Clothes Don Bronzene Pretty Hair Witch Craft Bunsey Neat Playing Darts Burdick Pleasant Movies Bush Short Movies Butler Good Looking Swimming Cady Upturned Nose Gary Carpenter Shadow Playing Piano Cernak Feet Breathing Church Good Guy Driving Cars Clark Q-P Doll Bowling Crawley Tall Basketball De Voe Pretty Hair Boys Dunn Serious Certain Boy Eggleston Smile Cooking Forman Well Stacked Boys Jenkins Suave Girls Judge Freckles Ballet Dancing Kenyon Cute Western Records Langlais Flirt Baking Unusuals La Pier Small Loafing Lavery Good Guy Banjo Lucia Different Sleeping Madison Thin Movies Mosher No Cares Makin' Music McKelligot Short Playing Piano Newkirk Chatter Box Private Eye OUTSTANDING WANTS TO PROBABLE OUTCOME CHARACTERISTIC BE Neat and Sweet Nurse Eddie’s Nursemaid Serious Attitude Music Teacher Find A Home For Her Hope Chest Carefree Writer Greenwich Village Looks Wife Ping Pong Champ Fun Loving Wife True Wife Friendly Jet Pilot Break Sound Barrier Can’t Be Rattled In College Casanova Of 1960 Love Sick House Wife Cure For All Ills Integrity Nurse Mad Musician Accent Artist Jackie’s Slave Conservative Engineer Saratogian Editor Brilliant Technician Bread Winner Neat Dresser Pro Capt.
