T ,A LEAVES OF GROWTH A branch on a tree with tiny buds reaches for the sk 5 The buds young and strong are eager to grow. Overhead in the clear bright sky, small birds Fly. On the branches some changes begin to show. The tiny buds are no longer now. Tiny leaves appear in their place. The branch gently sways and the leaves seem quiet and serene. But inwardly they are growing as If In a great race. To catch and hold onto a future dream. In their second stage: first as a bud, now a leaf, They have grown full with ambition and never ending search. They look to the sky to broaden their belief. From their branch they cannot be shaken by a sudden lurch. The leaves grow older and their color grows full. Now they are ready to iourney their separate ways. From their branch they shall soon begin to pull, And they shall flutter as the branch once again sways. Some of them fall to the ground and settle downp Others are carried along by a gentle breeze. They are looking for their own special crown, And a glory they one day may seize. Dedication - I ii i geB,iF . L , :.,, V,. , , D Air- For his constant allegiance to the cause of education, for his sincere and important contribution to that cause in Corfu, and for his high standard of manhood exemplified in his own living, the Crest-Hi of i958 is dedicated to Mr. Carney, with deep appreciation . 4 2 ff QD- we Ati S ADMINISTRATION PRINCIPAL MESSAGE I have been thinking that if your class are all successful in meeting graduation requirements in June, I shall have signed approximately eight hundred diplomas since centralization. The community, parents, school, and faculty have combined to provide the necessary facil- ities for your educational program. But unless in the process yob have learned to give of your- selves in time, effort, service to others, you will not have learned the most important lesson for it is in giving, that we receive. Wild 1 W v W l Class History With mixed emotions we, the Class of 1958, await the future and the end of our high school career, realizing what a wonderful time we have had during our school years. As Freshmen we elected our leaders, J.Ortner, President, L.Lamb, Vice President, D.Wild, Secretary, and J .Sewerniak, Treasurer. Our only activity during this year was the Freshmen-Sophomore Round and Square Dance. In our Sophomore year, ioined by the students from East Pembroke, we chose J.Fenton, President, A.Keller, Vice President, M.Hammond, Secretary, and J.Sewerniak, Treasurer. Again our only activity was the Freshmen- Sophomore Round and Square Dance. As Juniors we elected J.Fenton, President, J.Sewerniak, Vice President, D.Schneider, Secretary, and A. Keller, Treasurer. That year we had a Junior Round and Square Dance. In the Spring accompanied by the Sen- iors we held a Junior-Senior Ball with the Theme Club '57. Music was furnished by Carl Dengler and his band. The long awaited Senior year has finally arrived. We commenced by electing J.Ortner, President, A.KeIler, Vice President, R.Stone, Secretary, and S.Boyd, Treasurer. As Seniors our first task was the magazine campaign S.Boyd was manager with A. Keller and L.Lamb as team captains. We sold 53134.42 worth of magazines and made a profit of S1088.20. We then selected our class rings. On September 13, 1957 we held our Senior Round and Square Dance from which the profit was 5138.41 . In November the Senior Class presented a play entitled Oh Charlie under the direction of Mr. Carmody and it was a success. With the advent of spring we are making plans for the Junior-Senior Ball . As we the Senior Class of 1958 leave Corfu High and embark on our chosen careers we would like to wish the Class of 1959 the best of luck, success, and happiness in its Senior year. Senior Officers President: Jeremiah Ortner Vice President: Alton Keller Secretary: Rita Stone Treasurer: Sidney Boyd APRIL ADAMS nApriln To be successful is her ambi- tion. The team was able to maintain the record, of being unbeaten in the opening home game, by whip- ping Delevan Machias U8-6l. The second game was a close one, with the team losing to Pavilion Q0-7l. Journeying to Barker, the team rolled over them f27-OJ. The team then played Elba under the lights of Batavia's MacArthur Stadium. This game ended in a tie Q7-71. The season was closed on the home liieldf but a close decision was lost to Lyndonville O-7 . Nine Seniors will not be with the squad in l958. They include Captain Ron Weimer, Alton Keller, Joel Fenton, Jim Gabbey, and Vic Stalica fbacksl, Duane Sage and Harry Dibble iendsh Doug Greene itacklelp and Sid Boyd icenterl. Next year's line will have many veterans return- ing. If all the other available material comes out For next year's team, a fine team can be formed. 54' R,Zauner, S.Boyd, L,Gardner H,Dibb1e, D,Greene. I.Ke1sey, D.Hoag, D,Sage Hits. Much enthusiasm was exhibited and a successful season was concluded when the team finished second to a strong Batavia team in the County Meet at Terry Hills Golf Course. Duane Ball and Dale Currier were never beaten during the regular season, finishing first and second respectively in the County Meet. Currier finished fifth and Ball seventh at the sec- tionals held in Geneva, each being awarded a New York State Public School Athletic Shield, to become the first winners of this shield in this school 's history.
