We not only have a new principal, Jerry Burrows, at Cordell High, but we have a new President, Ronald Reagan. As there were many things happening at Cordell, there were many exciting things happening all over the world, such as 52 Americans being held hostage in Iran for 444 days, then being released on the same day our 40th president was inaugurated. Here are a few comments the students made about that day: After 444 days, every senior boy will sleep better knowing that he will not go to war over the hostages in Iran. We should make a parking lot out of Iranf' Americans' prayers were answered on January 20th, 1981. I Some of the changes at CHS include a new AG barn, a microfiche ma- chine for the library, and the arrival of the sophomores. The sophomore class was a very spirited class with high expectations for themselves. Their drive to be champions made up for their inexperience and helped carry the school to a good season in everything they did. They looked forward to joining new clubs, being initiated, waiting for the driver's ed car and passing their driving test. The junior class's year started off busy by ordering class rings, filling out ACT forms, and preparing for the banquet and prom. They raised money by selling mums for the homecoming, having car washes and bake sales, selling magazines, and having dances. The senior's last year was full of an- ticipation and apprehension. It was full of ordering announcements, trading senior pictures, visiting col- leges and finishing term papers. As the year came to a close also came senior week and their last prom. Some claimed, I can't wait until graduation, and then spent the whole night crying their eyes out. Kris Hoefar listens intently to some good news. Steve Looper goes up for a block against Snyder. Yea, we bad. Steve shows his enthusiasm for Mr. Burrows' new rules, Something wrong, Sabrina? Since she began twirling her freshman year, Georgia Garner has won over 130 awards including Miss Majorette of Oklahoma. Barry Bartel works on a report for Zoology. Billy Evans types a love letter to his secret girlfriend. To be or not to be, that is the question, Lisa Mershon says to herself. They are the ones that make A's year in and year out. How do they do it? Some of us wish we knew. Seniors are Karla Frank Mike Ratke, Sheila Hileman, Debbie Schmidt, Daryl Lidia, and Sheryl Wedel. Juniors are Jimmy Franklin, Steve Looper, Blaine Wesner, and Chris Cotten. Sophomores are Kyndal Hare, Anne Miller, Bonnie Sutton, Bob Hess, Steve Donley, Matt Haley, and Cindy Granchie. NNUAL STAFFERS WORK HARD' Well, after a year of long hard work this is what we came out with. Between attending judging meets and keeping their show animals in top shape, they were left with little free time. The time and effort FFA members spent in caring for these animals was not wasted. Awards were won time and again. These students knew the feeling of personal satisfaction in a job well done, and will continue setting and achieving new goals in years to come. o ggi f 452 Bobby Shows off his steer. L to R-Lori Williams, Jacque Hale, Lori Wrightsman, DeAnn Nickel, Denise Nickel. Go Big Blue! - a familiar phrase at CHS. It could be heard in halls, the audi- torium, on the football field, and in the gym. No matter where the Devils went, the cheerleaders always followed. Because of their late start, the cheer- leaders had to get organized, learn their routines, and find uniforms all in two weeks. But by the first game they were ready and have done a tremendous job all year long. The cheerleaders have hoisted the Dev- i1's spirit at pep assemblies with exciting dance routines, making up the coaches' faces, and all kinds of yelling. They've also sponsored dress up day, mask day, blue Sr white day, and much, much more. It isn't easy getting fan cooperation and keeping the spirit high, but these young ladies have certainly done their part in making sure that Cordell Blue Devils are gl 77 , ,, ,W .M Cordell shows its school spirit on the courthouse square after the 1980-81 homecoming parade. y , 'failwi b A i i wi, u ,st r ,ls , fl Top Left: Sophomores start off right by taking lst place in the float competition with the theme Blow Up the Bull- dogs. The lettermen and letteretts of Cordell High have been working hard this year, putting in long hard hours of practice and devot- ing all of their time to give the people of Cordell what they want to see. We are told that we represent Cordell, as we come out in our blue and white suits to show that we can do the best at anything we attempt and that we can also receive the privileges that entitle us to the tears, hugs Sz smiles that show we work as a team. The wins and losses of each season are not pastg the experience and the knowledge gained from each game will help us remem- ber the three key factors that qualify us to be a letterman or a letterette. C15 Spirit is the ability to stand up and cheer, not because you feel you have to but because you are proud to be a letterman or a letterette. C25 Determination is what motivates you to out-jump that guy who is 6'2 when you are only 5'2, it is to out-tackle that guy who is coming down the field with three guys behind him, and also to go out on the mat and pin that guy who weighs twice as much as you do. C31 Dedication is the long hard hours of practice, suiting up at every game and only get- ting to play 3 minutes the whole season. Now thatis dedication! That describes any letterman or letterette of Cordell High. 41 it-.. .-7-Ni , frightl As senior defense Rocky Maynard and Phil Rutherford wait to go in, Rocky shares a few words of encouragement with Phil. But, once again they proved to us that they could turn out an exciting season with 6 wins and 4 losses. Led by a good coaching staff, they made it to the play- offs, then lost to Deer Creek 25-14. Seldom quiet and seldom at home were the cheerleaders of the 1980-81 Blue Devils. These six young ladies found time in their hectic schedules to attend all of Cordell's sporting events. Ranging from football to basketball to wrestling, these ladies did it all. It's really not that easy being a cheerleader. It takes much work to get fan coopera- tion, learn cheers and formations, and an extra effort to make homecoming come off well. But ask any athlete how much difference it makes to have the crowd behind you and most will say, one heck of a lot. Hats off to these fine young ladies who gave up their time and devoted the energies to sup- port the Blue Devils.
