T0 R DER ENDSLEY Many people and things make up the Moments we remember in our school life, but this one man will un- doubtedly be remembered longer and by more of the students and faculty for his devotion to our school than any person in our school's history. His willingness to helpthe student body to better our school in any way he can and his friendliness to all the students has left a fond Memory in the hearts of all of us. For this reason we dedicate this I959 Harvester to Rader Endsley. ADMINISTRATION MR. STE WA RT Superintendent With each passing year we see another group of young men and young women leave our school to take their place in society as a responsible citizen. We are confident that the graduating seniors of the Class of 1959 are capable and qualified to meet the problems and situations as they arise. The future will hold great things for you. We wish that each of you will remember your school and the kind of Life that is a credit to you and your community. Congratulations and best of luck to the class of T959 SCHOOL BOA RD This is a time of great excitement and challenge. We have proposed trips to the moon and beyond. lt is likely that we will soon have manned flights into space. Each day we read of some new development. To accom- plish the wonders of today has taken a wealth of study and research. To keep apace with the innovations of today and the advances of tomorrow will take more in- formation, knowledge, and understanding than has ever before been necessary. This is the challenge for all of us, those who teach, those whoinvent and design, those who operate the machines, and those who keep them clean. Included in this great challenge is the control and wise use of those things we create. There will be no pro- gress, but chaos, unless we also advance in our under- standing of moral and spiritual values, of individual and societal needs. We must grow in our appreciation of man, of peoples, and of God. My message to the high school graduates of i959 is to recognize and accept this challenge .... Mr. Stewart . . .Mr. Yeager MR. YEAGER Principal 4-Bb r MR. I. MAROOT MR. A. FINNEY MR. F. DOAN MR. R. BESSEY MR. H, DOW 4 MR. STIVERS Dean of Boys How often you will look through the pages of your Harvester and think of your many friends while at Corcoran High School! Their success, and yours, will be the result of todays thoughts and action-values you are establishing, goals you are setting. Maydyour time at Corcoran High build for you basic un erstandings which will bring you the ioy of t achieving a successful life in your chosen field of work. May you, as you enter this fast changing world, contribute and share a better life with all mankind i Congratulations to you the students of Corcoran High School on your achievements to the present time and best wishes to you for your future endeavors. Especially do l congratulate the members of the graduating class of 1959. Ithas beenapleasure to work with the Corcoran High School students. I am proud to say that I feel sure there is no finer groupof students in any high school anywhere. Asyou grow older and face the world in your every- day life, I feel sure you will come to appreciate more and more the things you have learned in your years at Corco ran High School. Your academic achievements will of course be of great value to you, but perhaps far greater than these will be your ability to get along well with other people. The importance of this is surely out- standing when we hear that as high as ninety per cent of the employees who are dismissed from their jobs are not discharged because ofinability to do their work well, but because they cannot get along with other employees. You can be part of the ten percent. . . Mr. Stivers . . .Miss White l MISS WHITE Dean of Girls SECRETARIES BEVERLY OAKLEY BARBARA FUGA TE 5 OFFICE HELP LEFT TO RIGHT: J. Reguero, J. Walton, P. The year opened rapidly with a Teacher's institution. The year who had to readiust to a new environment. A faculty party followed institutions to enable the new teachers and the oldto become acquainted with one another. Several churches in the community sponsored re- ceptionsto acquaint teachers with congregation members. As the year progressed, it was highlighted by several events such as the faculty Christmas part and a faculty basketball game with Hanford. During the year many of the faculty were active in the P.T.A. and community organizations. They expect to continue such work by going to summer schools for professional advancement. MR. The Senior class, this year, has accomplished much. Their main money raising projects were concession stands and the Senior Ball . Everyone was able to go on the Senior Ditch Day trip. A large class fund furnished the capital with which to build their Senior proiect. The Seniors will have golden memories of the Breakfast and Baccalaureate Services. Years from now they will reminisce about the splendor of Graduation. Now, however, they look forward eagerly to college or business life. SPONSORS MRS. ESCH MR. LAMB MR. The Panthers set a new high offensively scoring 3Ol points in nine games against the oppositions 46 fa new lowi . A multiple offense with 60 different plays and three different types of T offensive patterns which is rarely seen in high schools was used this current season by the nearly all Senior team . However, this talent might not have piled up its fine record without competentguidance, and Coach Williams should get much of the credit for making the very most of a limited number of athletes. B Football The Corcoran Cubs although only winning three football games, have no reason to be ashamed of their losing season . Injuries of key players kept them out of the winning column. As the scores indicate all their games were very close, also the Cor- coran Cubs s core d more points than their opponents. If the Cubs had had some good breaks they probabl would have won all their games. The Cubs proved to be a very good defensive ball club by keeping their opponent's scores at a minimum. BAILEY, Forward F , MITCHELL, Forward The varsity basketball team had a good season this year, regardless of the won-lost record. On paper their record of 3 wins-14 losses does not truly show the team's ability, how- ever, most of the games were close and exciting. Lack of height hurt the team. Many of the close games undoubtedly would have been won if the team only had that one tall man needed for rebounds. All the boys on the team worked hard and played some of the best basketball seen in Corcoran for a long time. At this writing the team has one league game remaining, with Garces. Having upset Wasco in the last outing, and knocking them out of a first place tie with Coalinga there is every reason to hope the team may be able to winthe tourn- ament. Varsity Basketball J. Basket- ball Team was arough, but very successful year. The team was not successful in the won lost rec- ord but it did help in the sense of getting such a program in the running. The team record was 5 losses and no wins, but they gave everyone a good tight contest. With one season past, but not forgotten, the team will be looking forward to next season and a more favorable record. jrA,? g.v ,, sts V-4' An Orosi player takes a set shot Another bucket for the Corcoran Panthers. l 79 ROW ONE, LEFT TO RIGHT: R. B Basketball The Corcoran Cubs, playing under the handicap of inexperience, have managed to win one game of the 15 played to date. The B team's lone venture into the win column came at the expense of Shafter, with a 30-27 squeaker in an overtime. The Cubs were later defeated on Shafter's home grounds by a 32-34 count. The one bright moment was ag a i nst Garces in w hi c h Corcoran emerged victorious 27 to 22. The Kittens showed much determination, bowing to the opponents in the late periods of play. Most of the season, the Kittens, played a pressing ball game which was the r eason for their being able to keep their opponents off bal- ance, however, the strain of this type of play pluslack of height for any other type of defense forced the Kittens to defeat. Dunn watches a fellow player make another basket. COACH PHELPS Wrestling This year's wrestling team was a young team composed of Sophomores and J u n io rs . Only three Seniors were on the team. This indicates the wrestling team for next year will be strong and will give their opponents a tough battle. They were Jerry Dow, who took 3rd and Joe Sol is . The outstanding seniors on the team were Jerry Dow, who had won T6 matches and lost tive. Although, the competition has and will increase throughout the season, Coach Hailey feels that the team will be up for any opponent as long as the attitude of the participants, at the present time, doesn't change.
