But once a stu- dent learns more about the plants and animals in our environ- ment, they realize how valuable it could be to take apart a small animal and see how it functions. The teachers in the science department are sensitive to the needs ofthe students. Dave Wainio, Josephine Bordonaro, and Barbara Spector work with students to develop knowledge about the living world around them. This knowledge not only gives a person a better understanding of all creatures but helps individuals to know more about their own bodies. The Chemistry and Physics courses taught by George Boljonis Carl Turshman, and Ed Swiatlowski are very technical in na- ture but are invaluable to students who are interested in the physical world about them. Although one may not realize it before taking these subjects, after completion, students un- derstand how Chemistry and Physics are interrelated with every aspect of our daily lives. If you have an opportunity, and have never done so, stop by the science roomswthere's a whole world of knowledge to be gained within the four walls of these classrooms. 0233

A noth r World iave you ever wondered what it would be like if you lived in nother country? Students who are interested in studying ,bout the people, language, and culture in distant lands hould familiarize themselves with the courses offered in Trench and Spanish. Both of these subjects are taught at Cor- oran by educators who have a deep interest in the cultures if people who live outside of the United States. Xlthough it is not always easy to learn a foreign language, Tlorence Michaels, Susan Spadafore, and Karen Steiger make Trench and Spanish come alive. In the beginning classes, vo- abulary development and grammar are emphasized. However once a student masters this, he or she has the opportunity to study about the culture of French and Spanish speaking peo- ple. It is interesting to learn about the differences among peo ple in foreign countries and then to reflect and see how much all people are truly alike. Although there are only two teachers each in the music and art departments, they work industriously to make certain that all students find their courses meaningful and worth- while. Students may take these courses as an elective or for a sequence if special permission is given. Our hats are off to the faculty of these departments.
