T e Guiding Light The Corcoran Guidance Department is perhaps the busiest department in the school. Not only do the counselors help students-with their school related decisions, but the dedicated staff of Patrick Walsh, Herman Jones, Rita Contino, Paul Converse, and secretary Marie Suatoni handle transcripts, col- lege applications, and class placement, as well as help students in other areas of student life. But their job doesn't stop at school re- lated affairs. They are just what their title implies-counselors who are there to guide students in making important decisions that will influence their lives after their high school years. For your guidance, for your counsel- ing, for your understanding, we thank you. I 'fa ,ra lx! 44 ' ,L Paul Converse Patrick Walsh 00 3 f Rita Contino Herman Jones in if me M 'Q A1 if

Corcoran provide a valuable service which eventually affects us all. The registrar's office is divided into two main parts and is staffed by three incredible ladies. Jane Walsh is the atten- dance secretary who performs such tasks as taking attendance cards and formulating absentee lists, taking phone calls from parents, admit- ting students wlto are tardy to school, and excusing a student from school. Registrar, Mary Meckowski takes care of the registration of all new students. This along with keeping up-to-date records of each student's school history and processing senior diploma cards, keeps her busy every moment. Shirley Mollica is the third member of the team in room 118. She ties up all the loose ends, along with settling the daily problems of numerous students. This force of three women does the work often people. In the main office, there are four secretaries. Dorothy Sacks, the gen- eral Secretary, performs a multitude of tasks which include doing the work of a receptionist, making announcements, handing out bus passes, and taking messages for teachers. Grace Gronau serves as Doctor Hershberger's secretary. Sara Binaxes is vice-principal Steinburg's secretary. The newest member ol' Corcoranas secretarial staff is Marie Suatoni, who serves as both Mr. Adams' secre- tary and the guidance department's secretary. The students, staff and administration commend these hard working ladies as they strive for perfection in the clerical department of Tho- tnas J. Corcoran. It offers the students an individualized program geared toward their special strengths and weaknesses in the basic competencies necessary for a high school diploma. Students learn certain life skills that are necessary and practical to surviving in to- dayas world through discus- sions, lectures and demon- strations. Though our hall moniters are never armed with more than a smile, their very presence make the halls seem less deserted during classes. They laugh l with us when we drop our books, kid us when our ex- cuses for getting upstairs aren,t good enough and worry with us when student emotions run wild. Unfortunately, many of us don't appreciate them until the locker thefts rise and a girl gets sent on a lonely er- rand during a class. But come now, no longer fear, our trusty hall moniters are always near! Karen Walsh
