IHAIIQAIIDIEJF The Performing Arts Class is a course in which students learn the management of theater, how to design and apply makeup for characterization, and the focusing of color lights for a play presentation. Students are instructed in stage movement and in method and styles of acting. With this knowledge, the class commits itself to producing a Fall and Spring show. Set design, publicity, and props are taken care of by the students The Performing Arts Class, under the direction of E. James Lucas, has produced five dramatic comedies and two musical comedies. Students who are interested are encouraged to participate in area Drama Festivals and Speech Contests. In fact, one Performing Arts senior, Ramona George, placed fourth in the N.Y.S. Oral Interpretation Contest held at Cort- land, New York. Though Performing Arts is an English course and fundamen- tals of writing, vocabulary, spelling, and usage are stressed, students enjoy and participate in classroom activities involv- ing Mime, Pantomime, theater games and scene presenta- tions. We are proud of the progress they have made with the program and equally as proud of being labeled the best sec- ondary Performing Arts Program in the city. In the spring, the group went to Rochester for the Roch- ester Association Model U.N. This year was highlighted when the group arrived in New York City for the National High School Model U.N.
