Ace pitcher, Jane Dibiase, demonstrated her style. eg, Coach Downs and Denise Brufish Bru- baker discuss scoring yet another run in the game. Next year the softball team will have a new pitching machine if all goes as planned. Miss Downs was really pleased with five players, ranging from grades 7 to 9, two of whom were super pitchers. Things look good for next year even though the team lost some really valu- able players. They are Brubaker, Ed- inger, Hale and of course Haggart. The biggest disappointments for Miss Downs were the losses to Fowler. Fowler was number l in the league and both games were lost by one run which was when bases were loaded and there were two outs. Next season looks really great accord- ing to Coach Downs who is looking forward to a successful year.

Girls Serve Up Cougar Success This season the Girls' Tennis team served up a few powerful surprises as the team found winning a pleasant new style in CNY League play. Finishing the i77 season with an overall impressive 6-4 record, the Cougar victories included upset wins over Bishop Ludden and previously unbeaten Auburn. Defeating Auburn's Maroons was a first in the five years of coaching Girls' Tennis for Coach Downs, which is a feat that will be of the fondest racquet memories for our Cougars and coach! Senior Single's player, Mary Dermody, started the Corcoran upset as she beat her opponent. Likewise, the Mighty Racquet Cougarsv in the Doubles, team of Sue For- mica and Julie Wagner pulled out the second victory point. Securing the big win were Freshman Elaine O,Neil and J un- ior Patty O'Mara falias the Daily Doublen because they were undefeated in league playj. Corcoran didn't stop with league matches, as the doubles continued to win in Section Ill Regionals, while Sue For- mica and Julie Wagner advanced to Section III finals only to be defeated by a hard hitting New Hartford team. Although the team will lose half its members to graduation, singling out victories next season will be Erin Mahoney fol- lowed by the return of Elaine O'Neil, Patty O'Mara, Nancy Dermody, and Jean Bailey, all of whom seem game to match this year's smashing success as winning is in our court and right down our alley.
