at First You Don't Succeed . . . A disappointing season was encoun- tered by the Varsity Basketball team this year. Their unfortunate seasonal record was to be 1-17. The team did a good job playing but, unfortunately, most of the other schools played bet- ter. If one could have looked over coach Don Churchillls shoulder he would have probably said It was a long season. lt was also a learning ex- perience. With the exception of one player, the entire team will be back next year with more experience. These words made the season record much easier to take. Well, team, thereas nowhere else to go but up, so better luck next year. Corcoran Harriers Show Promise front row: Sheila Serrao, Sue Chestnut. 2nd row: Dennis O'Rouke, Dave Price, Pat Ellin- ger, Mike Hayduke, John Serrao, Steve Grab- Pacing himself, Steve McGaff is waiting for the right moment to pass his opponent. Hundreds of runners filled Van Cortland Park for the invitationals, which were held on October 8 8a 9. The New York City skyline provides a scenic background for the ming- ling of the participants. Inset-Tired and perspired, Rod lfick is determined to win the race. ski. 3rd row: Steve McGaff, Jeff Rear, Rod Pick, Greg Zook, Coach Hohm, Tim Gilson, Amos Nicks, Kevin Keough, Jim Scarbourgh. This year's Cross Country team was the best in Corcoran history. Their record of 5 and 2 fthird in the leaguej is one of the best ever. The Cougar's best ef- forts were shown during invitationals, where up to 30 teams competed at the same time. Corcoran won the Varsity 3 race at Fayetteville-Manlius, and par- ticipated in the largest Cross-Country invitational in the nation in which over 100 schools from six states met. This years success is attributed to a good turn out, hard work and excellent coaching on the part of veteran coach John Hohm. With a young team returning next year, Corcoran shows much promise in be- coming better than it has ever been be- fore.
