l tS Spor Gentl Jocks Go 7- It's the start of a new season and out come the palmguards, the ripped T- shirts, and the chalk. Then begin the exercisesg the sit-ups, the chin-ups, the handstand push-ups, and the dips. Floor ex-hand-springs and twists, side horsewthe pommels in the wrong place, high bar-burning at your hands, long horse-flying at spring time, paral- lel bars-handstands and bruised arms, and rings-muscle ups and steady as she goes. After the first season loss to power- house Henninger, Corcoran went on to win the rest of its seven meets and fin- ished second place in the CNYCL. Lead- ing the way was Senior John Anderson, who specialized in vaulting and floor- ex. Backing up with five performances were Seniors Paul McKenna fall-round -rings, high bar, and vaultingj and Joe Dadey Cside horse and p-barsj. Also contributing greatly to the team's suc- cess were Senior Lyndell Dowdell ffloor-ex. and vaultingj, Senior Glenn Sturge Cside horsej, Junior Bill Cogh- lan Crings, p-bars, and high barj, and Sophomores Dave Scholl Ch-bar and ringsj and Tom Younis Chfbar and ringsj. In their last meet, the team scored a school record high of 96 points, and' in the cityls meet at Henninger, Corcor- an,s gymnasts made a fine showing in assuring themselves second place. The team is coached by ex Henninger and Northern Michigan star gymnast Rich Macheda, who is still to be found twisting and toying graciously about the equipment. John Anderson had the elite opportun- ity to compete in the state meet, held at SUNY an Purchase. John finished a very respectable ninth . Congratulations to the gymnasts and their coach on a fine season! John placed first in vaulting in the City's Meet, and made it to the State Meet with his gra- cious vault after finishing second in the Sectional Meet. Completely in control and displaying good form, Dave Scholl executes an LH in warm- ing up for the ring event in the Cityls Meet at Henninger. His effort helped the team fin- ish second in the meet. ..' X P Stretching upward in preparing to pop for his handspring vault is Paul McKenna during the Watertown meet, which Corcoran won. Paul's performances were valuable to the team and he placed in the top five in three of the events at the City's Meet.
