Coach, Bob Southworth, and assistant man- ager, Mike Ward, use the batting machine to throw a pitch to . . . Saturday, May 14, 1977 proved to be a happy day for Coach Bob South- worth. On that faithful day, not only did the Varsity Baseball team beat Syracuse-Minoa 8-2, in a non-league game, but they also make it Southy's 200th win in his 12 years of coaching. This game proved to be one ofthe best of the season. In previous games, the Cougars hadn't scored more than seven runs or gotten more than seven hits, but in this game the team received 12 hits bringing in eight runs. By coincidence, Southy's 100th win was also made against East Syracuse- Minoa. With any luck, Coach Bob Southworth may be with us for his 300th win! 33 ,,,,'a, . 51 R f Rs l- -M ' , Freshman, Steve Robarge, swings and hits Third bHSem21I1, Peter -lCUkiHS, who makes the ball to . . . the Catch-

l tS Spor Gentl Jocks Go 7- It's the start of a new season and out come the palmguards, the ripped T- shirts, and the chalk. Then begin the exercisesg the sit-ups, the chin-ups, the handstand push-ups, and the dips. Floor ex-hand-springs and twists, side horsewthe pommels in the wrong place, high bar-burning at your hands, long horse-flying at spring time, paral- lel bars-handstands and bruised arms, and rings-muscle ups and steady as she goes. After the first season loss to power- house Henninger, Corcoran went on to win the rest of its seven meets and fin- ished second place in the CNYCL. Lead- ing the way was Senior John Anderson, who specialized in vaulting and floor- ex. Also contributing greatly to the team's suc- cess were Senior Lyndell Dowdell ffloor-ex. and vaultingj, Senior Glenn Sturge Cside horsej, Junior Bill Cogh- lan Crings, p-bars, and high barj, and Sophomores Dave Scholl Ch-bar and ringsj and Tom Younis Chfbar and ringsj. In their last meet, the team scored a school record high of 96 points, and' in the cityls meet at Henninger, Corcor- an,s gymnasts made a fine showing in assuring themselves second place. The team is coached by ex Henninger and Northern Michigan star gymnast Rich Macheda, who is still to be found twisting and toying graciously about the equipment. John Anderson had the elite opportun- ity to compete in the state meet, held at SUNY an Purchase. John finished a very respectable ninth .
