ougar ine Sparkles The 1977 Cougar Baseball season of 15 wins and 11 loses was not quite what the Florida-tanned Cougars expected. Cor- coran did capture two out of three of their set goals, though. The first goal was to win the magic 200th game. After eleven years of coaching Corcoran Baseball, Bob Southworth achieved his 200th coaching victory on Saturday, May 14, 1977. Corcoran defeated East Syracuse-Minoa with a score of 8-2. Tim Roberts threw the win with a six-hitter. The Coug- ars' bats swung strong to receive twelve hits, the highest all season. After the game, Coach Southy was heard saying, 'SI was pleased. The guys really opened up todayf' Corcoran also reached the Section lll playoffs for the 12th year in a row. The Cougars beat Fulton 3-0 and Whitesboro 3-2, but they were defeated by West Genesse 1-O in the last innings of play to end their season. I Was Pleased. The Guys Really Upened Up Today. Cotnliltby Top hitters were Joe Capriotti .369 Coutfieldj, John Donegan .302 fdesignated hitterj and John Milligan .300 ffirst basej. All city first squad selections were Chuck Cooper, pitcher, who had 6 wins, 3 loses and 76 strikeouts and Joe Capriotti, leftfielder. He was the team's leading hitter. Also chosen was Tim Scott, shortstop. He will be returning for the '78 season. 0 W Other Cougars returning to the Varsity team in '78 will be Jim Bradley, Lee Cohen, John Donegan, Peter Jenkins, John Milligan, Lenny Przyblyski, Steven Robarge, Steven St. Amour and Dave Ward. Catcher, Steve St. Amour, receives a few throws from the pitcher be- tween innings.

The 1977-78 boys, Soccer team had a tough time getting things together. Even though the team consisted of quite a number of seniors, Coach Paul Demi- trow and his Cougars couldn't get things kicking until the middle of the season. Junior Craig Ruoff received a goal in the second period to beat Henninger 2-0, last year's C.N.Y.C.L. champs. This win had a special significance for the Cougars as they had not defeated Henninger in nine years. Corcoran's junior Curt Marvin was named C.N.Y.C.L. second team all city with senior, John Milligan and junior, Bill Macrae received honorable men- tions. Striker, Eric Phillips, weaves through two Nottingham defenders in an attempt to pass to Lee Cohen.
