During oneis junior year, it becomes clear how prepared one is to take the last step be- fore crossing the bridge to adulthood. But which bridge? What college? Which business school? Which trade school? The service? Which job? Which tests to take? All of these have to be answered. What do each of these institutions look at to determine whether a student gets in or not? Certainly the type of courses and the grades earned in them are important, The grades determine a student,s rank and appear on his tran- script. The fact most students don't know is that the eleventh, not the twelfth year, is the decisive year for The change of classes is a time to clear your mind from last period's thoughts and prepare for the next. Judy Thomas seems to be thinking of whatis ahead, sn, C with 95- U G --tr AM QA the se grades. The SAT or ACT exams are also im- portant to college admissions board. They also look for a letter of recom- mendation from a guidance counselor, teacher, pastor or employer. Enthusi- asm, interest in the college major and a willingness to succeed are also impor- tant factors a college considers. Out- side activities that may be related to the field are important too. All these things should be worked on during the junior year. It is a time to evaluate progress and judge what will be necessary for that last step. Whether it be employment or further education, the accumulation of eleven years of knowledge and experi- ence will determine the ease with which one enters the future.
