Afternoon students don't have much going for them. Because of the schedule they can't get jobs and do the things morning students can. But they do have their very own J.V. Colts. lt's a new experience for the freshmen as they enter high school for their first year. So the J.V. team serves as an ice breaker when all the underclassmen go to a game and get behind their team and have a great time. J.V. gets back to position. I4O J.V. IQSO: A Good Year For Senior Colts KJ' Coach Bankston and key offense players. The year l98O was good to the Colts. Several seniors rose to fame. Nick Gancitano, the kicker, extended his record to 52 yards with a field goal against Pompano. Ron Vara was a versatile quarterback and punter. Playing five positions was 6' Sf' Stan the Man Roddenberry. Leading the defensive team was Stormin' Norman Kleinschmidt and Dave Novitt. Chris DePalma and John Kelly were captains of the offensive squad. In coming years, it will be this team that will be used to mark the Colts upward rise to a winning team. V. Strong and Read to Pla I! Underclass Spiritlll Action at the scrimmage line takes its toll. This year the l980 Junior Varsity Colts have provided several spectacular games by coming from behind in the second quarter to win. The game against Ely was exemplary of the J.V. strategy. During the first half, Ely put 6 points on the board, but the J.V. Colts came roaring back at the end of the half by blocking a kick off. Tom McPherson ran the ball over the goal line from the four yd. line. The point after was good, and the Colts were leading 7 to 6. ln the third quarter, the Ely team scored to take the lead I3 to 7. Then the defense, coached by Tony Shaw, shut down the Ely team for the rest of the game. Quarterback Jonnie Sadar engin- eered a long drive, culminated by a surging dive from Tom Martin. J.V.
