'- .AA .-x,,..L Y U ' Tr- SF. : -fifmar -,,,vT5g, ,,-,, THE WHITE HOUSE WASHINGTON March 9, 1990 I am delighted to extend my warmest greetings to all those gathered for the decommissioning ceremo- ny of the USS CORAL SEA. This last day of our NAgeless Warrior'sU distinguished career provides a fitting occasion to commend her officers and crew, past and present, for their professionalism and devotion to duty. Named for our decisive World War II victory, the Battle of the Coral Sea, this great ship has like wise been a source of great pride for the United States. For more than 43 years, Navy personnel have taken the CORAL SEA across the oceans of the world in order to defend the cause of freedom and peace. Time and again, her presence has signalled our resolve to protect our national security and the interests of our allies. As a former Naval aviator, I share in the touch of sadness you feel as we bid farewell to the CORAL SEA. However, this is really not the final call of her journey -- the spirit of the mighty carrier will live on in the hearts of all those who served aboard her and in the hearts of freedom-loving people everywhere. The fine sailors of this grand ship's last watch have my best wishes for continued success and every future happiness. On behalf of all Ameri- cans, I thank you for your dedicated service to our nation. God bless you, and God Bless America.
