July 29 -- August 1 Alexandria, Egypt lexandria, The pearl of the Mediterranean, was named after its founder, Alexander the Great, who established the city in the fourth ,century B.C. Since its inception Alexandria has been considered, along with Rome and A Constantinople, as one of the three main Christian centers of the world. It has continued to develop throughout the ages and is today a vital economic center, lying at the crossroads of the main trading routes between the continents of Asia, Africa and Europe. Alexandria is celebrated for its long stretch of white, sandy beaches, which extend for more than thirty kilometers which has given the city its name, The Pearl of the Mediterranean.
