Y ...we -i .. . my A YNY, nw V YU 1 I z e il ll ne tour from Marseille explored the wine region and paused for lunch at Cassis, a fishing village surrounded by beaches at the foot of 1,200-foot high Cap Canaille, Europe's highest cliff. Then it was off to the museum of the famous French Foreign Legion. One other tour boarded France's speedy bullet train for a two-day tour of Paris. Coral Sea's third port call was to Cannes, perhaps the best-known leisure spot on the French Riviera. Enroute to the tiny country of Monaco, tours covered the Riviera's capital, Nice, and traveled along shores that attract sunworshipers year-round. A plush casino opened it's doors and welcomed Coral Sea to the glittering principality. After witnessing a changing of the guard at the Prince's Palace, tour groups stood eye-to-eye with Mediterranean sea creatures at an Oceanographic Museum directed by Jaques Cousteau.

Marseille has been a dominant port in the Mediterranean for almost 2,600 years. In 1943 the Germans blew up the port area, but today, modern shops blend with an old world atmosphere. Buses rather than utility boats shuttled sailors between the carrier and the port area. Waterfront activity flourishes in this section of town known as Old Port, where old salts mend fishing nets and merchants vend the catch of the day. A taste of America was found under the Golden Arches near the port area. :Q 392335- ll? 3
