Rear Admiral John K. Ready, a 1 native of Quincy, Massachusetts, holds a B.S. degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Boston University. ln March 1962, Rear -Admiral Ready was designated a Naval '- Aviator and ordered to VF-101 NAS Key West for training in the F-+4 Phantom aircraft. One year later, he reported to sea duty with VFQ102, making deployments aboard the USS ENTERPRISE lCVNl-65l and USS AMERICA QCVQ Eel. , ln .luly 1966, Rear Admiral Ready reported to the U.S. Naval Test Pilot School QUSRNTPSD at NAS Patuxent River for test pilot training. Following graduation, he was asslgned to the Carrier Sultabllllty branch of the Flight Test dlvislon and participated ln test programs ol F-4, FAQS, A-4 and A-7 airermllt. ln June 1968, he was asslgned to the U5rNfTPS stall as a flying quallty and lperlormanee fllght, instructor, Safety Qllleer and spin program manager. Rear Admiral Ready returned to sea duty in 19-69 with VF-14. While attached to VF-14, he served aboard USS KENNEDY QCV-67l and attended the Navy Fighter Weapons School. ln July 1971, Rear Admiral Ready reported to the ULS. Air Force Command and Staff College at AFB, Aldbama. During this tour, he earned an MBA degree from Auburn University. colvuvl GROUP TWO REAR ADMIRAL JOHN K. READ Rear Admiral Ready was assigned to VX-4 in August of 1972 where he served as Mlalntenance Officer and Alr-to-Alr Special Prolects Ofllcer on F-4, F-8 and F--14 aircraft. In .luly 1974, Rear Admiral Ready assumed command of the Navy Fighter Weapons School, Rear Admiral Ready reported to VF-24 for F-14 replacement pilot tralnlng in June 1975. l-le then reported to VF-24 ln December 1975 as Executive Officer. On April 30, 1976, he assumed command of VE-24, the Flghtlng Red Cheokertallsf' In August 1971 Rear Admiral Ready reported to the Naval Alr Test Center where he served as Chief Test Pilot for the Strike Aircraft Test Directorate. Rear Admlral Ready assumed comrmmdl of Carrier Alr Wing ELEVEN in ltlllaroh 1979 and deployed on lsoard USS AMERICA QCV-661. l-le assumed command or USS ASHTABUAL QAD-511 on 26 January 1981 and R decommissioned the ship on 30 September 1982, ln 1983, Rear Admiral Ready was assigned to the Office ol the Clllef ol Naval Operatlons as Deputy Director, Strllte Warfare, Systems Analysis division and Speolal Pmleol Analyst, Taotloal Readlness dlvislon. From November 1983 to March 1985, he commanded USS SARATOGA lCVeB0l and conducted a major geployment to the Mediterranean lr ln Aprll 1985, Rear Admiral Ready attended the CAPSTOWE course at Ellie National War College lnstltute lor lrllgher Defense Studles. From .llune 1985 to October 1985, lie assumed command ol Carrier Group X, EIGHT. From llovember 1985 tot' November 1986, he commanded the Naval Air Test Center, serving as the 11.5. Navyis Clnlefl Test Pilot. Rear Admiral Ready assumed command of Carrler Group 'l'lllO in January 1987. Rear Admiral Ready la marrled to the lormer Judy Burgess or Middletown, Ohio, and has two ohlldran, .Holm and Jennifer.
