S2 operates the main galley and the ever popular doggie diner. The pressure test of good service is applied at sea with the main galley operating eighteen hours a day and serving an average of 5200 portions daily. This is in addition to the ten hours and nearly 1800 rations provided by the doggie diner. A typical daily breakout of food for the general mess consists of over one halt ton of dry goods, better than three quarter ton of fresh foods, and a staggering two and a half tons of frozen foods. Especially when 'local' may mean 3,000 miles away. S-3 division maintains three stores including a walk-in store that provides basic necessities such as soap, toothpaste, shampoo, etc. as well as some luxuries such as ice cream. They also operate the smoke shop which offers a variety of tobacco products for sale and the gedunk store for those with a sweet tooth. The thankless never ending job of providing the crew with clean laundry is most likely S-3's biggest job. Standing over a hot dryer or press in an already hot space is what the men of ship's laundry have to look forward to seven days a week. Need a haircut? S-3 also operates two barber shops in order to groom the approximate 4,000 men stationed aboard the CORAL SEA. An already big job made even bigger when the Captain decides to have a personnel inspection. X J J if t R f A 1 fx ,jim as Jams Y .
