E1, E2 ivis ons Where were you when the lights went out? Well if y0u're a member of E-division you're looking for a blown fuse or heading towards a switchboard. Electricity is a commodity we grew up with. We use it in practically every facet of our lives, and aboard the CORAL SEA the responsibility for its safe and efficient production and distribution rests with the EM's. This task is handled by the different shops of E-division. Lighting shop - Light is what we are all most familiar with and what we usually miss first. The lighting shop handles all lighting and 117V electrical circuits. They are also responsible for the flight deck lighting and the ship's battery locker. A810 shop - This shop handles the electrical end of the catapults and bomb elevators. They are on call constantly during flight ops and maintain a crew in the shop 24 hours a day at sea. Power shop - Heavy duty 220l440V equipment is the primary responsibility of the power shop. Vent motors, galley equipment, laundry equipment, and electrical winches are the usual charges of the power shop. They also have the capability to rewind motors. Safety shop - These are the buffer and coffee pot technicians. They are concerned with the repair and periodic safety checks of small and portable appliances. As work center supervisor, EM2 Nobles stresses, personal electrical safety as the primary responsibility of his shop. Distribution - The base of operations for this workcenter is divided among the ship's four electrical switchboards. Distribution also handles the mainten- ance of electrical equipment and lighting below the 4th deck. E2 Division - This is the workcenter that doubles as separate division due to the diversity of their assigned tasks. They are responsible for the ship's gyro compasses and telephone network. They repair alarms, indicators, and communication devices from one end of the ship to the other., H
