The range and scope of services Provided by the CDR H. J. Suachwnz engineering department is staggering. Ai, A2 lv s ens Providing the services necessary for comfortable living aboard the CORAL SEA rests with A-division. But the hotel services are not the only concern of A gang, as their expertise affects many varied evolutions aboard the CORAL SEA. ln most cases the nature of the work is reflected in the title of the shop: Hydraulics -this shop is responsible for the care and upkeep of the aircraft elevators and the hydraulic components of the ship's steering system. They are also responsible for the anchor windlass motors and the winches used for underway replenishments. Steam Heat - these men work with the life blood of the shipg steam. Although they deal primarily with habitability steam such as hot water heaters, steam used in the galley, laundry, and various other heating systems, they also maintain the steam catapult system used for launching our aircraft. AC8tR - this shop is usually brought to mind when the temperature in your office or berthing compartment begins to rise. They service and repair the ship's air conditioning plants as well as food refrigeration units. Diesels - rarely needed but very important nevertheless are the men who maintain the FWD and AFT emergency diesel generators. They are constantly ready to provide emergency electrical service to the ship should the ship's service generators fail to handle the load. They also maintain the power plants aboard the motor whale boats and the captain's gig. Auxilliaries - their basic function is to provide air: they operate the compressors that provide low, medium, and high pressure air. Machine Shop - if a machined part is needed in a hurry the machine shop is equipped to manufacture such items as bushings, shafts, wear rings, and flanges. 02N2 plant - it could be said this work center is a 'gas'!! They manufacture liquid oxygen and nitrogen. The oxygen is used for pilot breathing systems and oxy-acetylene welding rigs. The nitrogen is used to inflate aircraft tires, purge fuel systems, and fill electronic modules. , .
