V4 Division The purple shirts of V4 are the hybrids of the air department being half airdale and half snipe. They are responsible for maintenance of the JP5, AVGAS, and aviation lub oil systems. They maintain pump rooms on the seventh deck, filter rooms on the third deck, and 21 fueling stations on the hangar and flight decks. Of the approximately 70 men, half refuel the aircraft and the other half pump, transfer, and clean the fuel. The quality control lab assures the purity of the fuelg a critical process for, unfortunately, aircraft at 30,000 ft to 40,000 ft cannot be allowed to develop indigestion . After each recovery all aircraft must be refueled for the next launch.
