Captain George A. Aitcheson Commanding Officer Mar 77 - Present After graduation from the University of Pittsburgh in June of 1952, George A. Aitcheson entered the Navy as an aviation cadet. Upon appointment as an Ensign in December of 1953, he attended the Jet transitional course at NAS, Kingsville, Texas. Following a tour aboard USS ORISKANY with VF-192, Capt Aitcheson served as a flight instructor at the Fleet All Weather Traning Unit, Pacific. In 1958 Capt Aitcheson reported to US Naval Test Pilot School in Patuxent River, Maryland and in June of 1959 was assigned to Weapons Systems Test as a test pilot. Capt Aitcheson earned his M.S. Degree in International Relations from George Wa- shington Univ. ln July of 1965 he returned to the Naval Test Pilot School as an instructor. ln June of 1969 Capt Aitche- son reported to VF-191 as Executive Officer assuming command in May of 1970. In February of 1973 he assumed command of Attack Carrier Airwing 15 and deployed on the CORAL SEA for the first time. After serving on the Staff of COMNA VAIRPAC for a year Capt Aitcheson assumed com- mand of the USS SACRAMEN- TO IAOE-11 in March of 1975. He attended the Senior Officer's Ship Material Course at Idaho Falls, Idaho, and in March of 1977 Capt George Aitcheson became USS CORAL SEA twenty-ninth Commanding Officer.
