Street scene ARANTO, ITALY, is a seaport and fortified city on the southern shore. It is actually situated on a rocky island which lies between the Little Sea and the Gulf of Taranto. In ancient days, the city was called Tarenturn and was a proud possession of the Greeks. Today, as in years gone by, the main industry is its oyster and mussel ish- eries which occupies the time of most of the inhabitants, The houses and streets seem unusually small by today's standards.
