F00TBAL1 With the return of seven lettermen, those being: Buzz Oerding and Larry Schweinfurt, ends; Leonard Scolari, tackle; Bob Groves, guard; Jim Kay and Gene Schrag, quarterbacks; and Eddie Howe, fullback; Coquille started their 1940 football season. The Red Devils got off to a successful start by winning from Ashland and then bowed to a strong Roseburg team. We then won from North Bend, Rcedsport, and Sutherlin, while losing to Marshfield and Myrtle Point. This brought Coquille High School’s season record to five wins and three losses. Buzz Oerding did the Red Devils an honor by being chosen on the All-County second team. Date Pts.
