SOPHOMORES The Sophomore class started out the 1949-50 school year by electing their class officers who are as follows: President, Bob Groves; Secretary, Joyce Jones; Student Council Representative, Lyndel Finley; Program Chairmen, Diane Jackson and Doug Ostrander. The Sophomores who made letters in football this year were: Larry Schweinfurt, Bill Willard, Don Laird, Eddie Howe, Bob Groves, Doug Ostrander and Leonard Scolari. Basketball letters were made by Eddie Howe, Larry Schweinfurt, and Leonard Scolari. Basketball and football numerals were made by a number of Sophomore boys. The Sophomore band members arc: Jesse Thurman, Peggy Tuttle, Pete Harvey, Jerry Miller, Mary Pingleton, Jack Purkey, and Lyndley Simpson. The Sophomores initiated the Freshmen in the first part of the year. They also held a Basket Social and a Food Sale in March. The Sophomores found Miss Girts to be a very capable advisor. 22

FRESHMEN The Freshman class of 1949-50 had a very fine year under the advisement of Mr. Moomaw and the leadership of the class officers who are as follows: Sherril Hatcher, President; Bobby Swinney, Vice President; Nana Foss, Secretary; Eddie Atkinson, Student Council Representative. The Freshmen were welcomed as members of Coquille High by an initiation dance held by the Sophomores in the early part of the year. A Freshman class party was held on March 17, where a good time was enjoyed by everyone. The Freshman class was very well represented in sports and school activities. There were quite a few Freshman boys on the Junior Varsity football team and “B” squad basketball team. Fritz Peterson was the only Freshman making a letter in football. The boys on the Junior Varsity earned numerals. There were 11 Freshmen in the band. They are: Yvonne Chormicle, Betty Dorland, Sharon Griggs. Claremont Hannevold, Sherril Hatcher, Betty Hill, Lonnie Kellenberger, Sally Jeffrey and Patsy Wilson. T ' OFFICERS 23
